First let me say before I bought this machine, I had a $300.00 Capresso coffee maker with the built in grinder and still do. It's just on vacation! The reason I bought a new machine was so I could see something different on my counter! With that said, let me get to my review. I saw this machine at Walmart and fell in love with the clean lines and and stainless steel. Went home and read the reviews and as always, not all were good but took a chance anyway and I'm so glad I did. I've had it for 2 years now and it still brews hotter and faster than my capresso ever did and 4hrs later I still have hot coffee! There were reviews that said there were problems with water leaking from the water reservoir and the car at would leak coffee around the seam where the plastic and steel come together. I have not had either of these problems. HOWEVER, there was one review concerning a smell that came from the water reservoir. Mine had this smell from day one and I can't describe it but, after 2 years it's still there. Another review spoke of the clock display being too dark. Mine suffers the same problem but I've learned to live with it. Another review has mentioned that the cleaning light keeps coming on. This must be an isolated problem as I have only seen one or two mentioning this and I do not have this problem. The machine fits beautifully under my cabinet and I don't have to move the machine out to put water or coffee in it. The design is so simple and so easy to use. I have used it every single day for the past two years and have never problems. This is the first Mr Coffee I've had in 35 years and let me say they've come a long way. I absolutely LOVE this machine and HIGHLY recommend it to all my friends. As I said at the beginning of this review, my previous machine had a built in burr grinder. I did miss having fresh ground coffee so I also bought the Mr coffee burr grinder and love it too but that's a whole other review.

I am disappointed with this maker. The clock runs slow, about an hour a day. I have had it about six months, the coffee tastes great but too many problems. The clean light keeps coming on. I clean it per instructions, then the next time I use it, the light comes back on. When this happens it takes about 20 minutes to brew a pot. I have run the clean cycle about 5 times but still problems.

Missing 1 important feature

By

from Fort Wayne, IN, United States

Comments about Mr. Coffee Optimal Brew BVMC-PSTX91 Brewer:

We bought this coffee pot only because it was the only one I could find with a removable Water Resivor. I really wanted a 12 cup but had to settle. The only major problem with this coffee pot is that you can not turn it back on after the 2 hour brew time. We like to have coffee all day and we're use to just turning it back on to keep it nice and hot. Other than it missing this 1 key function, in my opinion, it is a good coffee maker.

Dry Coffee Grounds Remain

Comments about Mr. Coffee Optimal Brew BVMC-PSTX91 Brewer:

I purchased this system recently and followed instructions to pre-moisten the filter disk. However the water did not seem to pass through the disk and grounds remained dry after brew cycle. I have tried everything I know possible. Purchased new disks etc. I can't be the only one with this problem!

10 Cup Optimal Brew -Love this Coffee Maker - BUT!

By

from Las Vegas, NV, United States

Comments about Mr. Coffee Optimal Brew BVMC-PSTX91 Brewer:

This is the third one of these makers I have purchased, and really like everything about them, except for one thing... After about two months, the clock display fades out (dims) to the point i it is unreadable. And, it has been the same on all 3 machines I've purchased. Just a few days ago, the power went out in our neighborhood, and I had to turn off all the lights in the house in order to re-set the clock and brew time. So, it sounds like a serious design flaw. I love the coffee maker, but I'm a little nervous to spend the extra money on another one. Hey Mr. Coffee, what's the deal with the displays?

Wemo hot-NOT

By

from Willard, MO, United States

Comments about Mr. Coffee Optimal Brew BVMC-PSTX91 Brewer:

I bought my coffee maker based on several things and one was that it would keep your coffee hot, more like luke warm. I have used this thing now 3 times and have had to heat my coffee in the microwave ever time. I do love the app to set the time to make my coffee but at this price I feel like I wasted to much money.

found plastic/paper in heater

By

from Melbourne, FL, United States

Comments about Mr. Coffee Optimal Brew BVMC-PSTX91 Brewer:

I disassembled the coffee maker after it failed at 20 months. Brewing went from 5 minutes to 15 minutes and stopped with water in reservoir. I found 2 pieces of plasticized paper in the heater outlet. One was half dime size and could not have come in through reservoir outlet. There was a lot of calcium on outside of hot water tube. I am trying to decide whether I should buy the same model again.

Cold Coffee

Comments about Mr. Coffee Optimal Brew BVMC-PSTX91 Brewer:

A friend of mine gifted me this coffee pot after my Hamilton Beach BrewStation started leaking. I loved my HB..this coffee pot is terrible. I get ONE cup of hot coffee. I have the Thermal Carafe and I assumed it would be great like my thermos.. NOT! My first cup is VERY hot.. by the time I get to my second cup it is barely even warm at all. I waste more coffee grounds with this pot. I don't like nuked coffee so I have to brew another pot just to get one more cup. If you brew less than 6 cups it doesn't taste right so I get 1 cup out of 6. I NEED my coffee in the morning. It was a thoughtful gift but a terrible one. My sister has the exact same pot as I do and I asked her if I was doing something wrong. Maybe I have a setting wrong or something. She said she hates her pot for the same reason. I guess until this pot dies, I will have to brew the coffee then pour it into my thermos. I usually only use my thermos to take my coffee when I go fishing. Now I will be using it daily. Very poor product.

Disappointed

By

from Goshen, IN, United States

Comments about Mr. Coffee Optimal Brew BVMC-PSTX91 Brewer:

I have been disappointed in the strength of the brewed coffee. I had to remove the water filter otherwise the grounds are not uniformly brewed. I like the detachable water reservoir and carafe, those work well.

I bought this two months ago and the coffee from it taste funky, I'm not really happy with the quality of the coffee. :-( The features all work fine, I do like the easy programmable feature. I just don't like the taste of the coffee.

Great coffee maker

By

from Baton Rouge

Comments about Mr. Coffee Optimal Brew BVMC-PSTX91 Brewer:

I bought this coffee maker about one month ago. Was reluctant due to the reviews, but I had bought one for my daughter-in-law last Christmas and she loves hers. I have to agree. After a month I couldn't be happier. However, my daughter-in-law nor I use the filter due to country water, so that may be why others have problems and we do not. It does not spill at all when you pour; first coffee maker I have had in 40 years that did not.

The BEST (almost) designed Coffee Maker made!!

By

from Latrobe, PA, United States

Comments about Mr. Coffee Optimal Brew BVMC-PSTX91 Brewer:

The reason I am writing is due to my stupidity not a design defect (see below) First - I love this coffee maker and as an engineer with a few patents I can say it is very well designed ergonomically. The coffee is loaded in an easily pulled out from the side drawer with a lid and the tank easily removes by lifting off the light well fitting flat small lid and then grabbing the clear rectangular water tank's molded in handle in the back and lifting vertically just an inch or less to unhook it - BOTH adding water and coffee - without moving the coffee maker - MOST of the MANY other models I have had require pulling out from under the cabinet just to get the door open for either adding coffee or water and some make you fill up the pot then dump it into a tank thats built into the body of the machine. The basket lid opens easy and you can set it on the counter to add coffee (i grind my own) but it would be nice if it didn't tip over leaning to one side when it's open - maybe add a small leg under the basket? and I love how the carafe fits under a circular hood that minimizes spills and heat loss - and the stainless steel vacuum carafe keeps the coffee hot for hours after the 2 hour hot coffee timer beeps. and I like the easy controls to set the delay time and the clock (which does seem to tolerate a short power outage without losing settings) as we do get frequent power losses being at the end of the line here in the hills of western Pa. and the water filter is easy to replace (even though our water is very good here) which brings me to the problem I have and which I suspect is the real reason others are experiencing spilling all over the counter - I am so used to coffee makers that USE THE POT TO ADD WATER that I forget to dump out any coffee left in the pot since you just lift off the tank and fill it up AND NOT BEING A MORNING PERSON I am also very used to setting the delay timer so my coffee is hot and ready in the morning WHICH I NEED and love TO WAKE UP. If you forget to empty the pot the night before - instead of just pouring a fresh hot cup of coffee - you awaken to a countertop filled with the overflow that the pot had in it that displaced the just brewed coffee. Now I admit its my fault for not emptying the pot but I HAVE DONE THIS NOW AT LEAST A DOZEN TIMES. - Since you don't have to even touch the pot when you set it up you don't think to check it to make sure it's empty. WHY CAN'T YOU GUYS ADD SOME SENSOR that weighs the pot to make sure it's empty - (I noticed that you can't turn it on without the tank in place) If you could do that and maybe add a little leg to the basket - IT WOULD BE PERFECT!! ps I have never had any problem with the lever that shuts off the coffee while brewing - maybe the other people that had leaks really just forgot to empty their pots ?

Best Coffeemaker I've ever had!

By

from Utah

Comments about Mr. Coffee Optimal Brew BVMC-PSTX91 Brewer:

I bought this coffeemaker about 3 months ago. From day -1 I couldn't believe how delicious the coffee is! I have always used bottled purified water to make coffee - we have very hard tap water and a whole-house water softener, so no drinking out of the tap for us! This machine is fast, coffee is wonderful, and I don't have to worry about forgetting a glass carafe on the burner and having the carafe burn up. I get up over an hour before my hubby, and we both enjoy our hot delicious coffee when we get up. The carafe is great...not having to worry about breaking a glass one is a small but important feature for us. Hubby even said the other day, that he likes our coffee better at home than out at a restaurant! Thank you Mr Coffee! I highly recommend this coffeemaker!

Wastes a lot of coffee

By

from Undisclosed

Comments about Mr. Coffee Optimal Brew BVMC-PSTX91 Brewer:

I bought this coffee maker from target about 5 months ago. The first few months everything was great. I liked that everything was detachable and very easy to use, but then I started to notice that my coffee was coming out really weak, even though I had added enough coffee to make a strong cup. Upon closer inspection I noticed that only 1/2 the coffee in the basket was wet! Now I just feel like I'm wasting a lot of coffee to make really weak coffee.

Comments about Mr. Coffee Optimal Brew BVMC-PSTX91 Brewer:

After a month's use - Brew temperature is 185 degrees maximum, not the 200+ promoted; Carafe is o.k. - loss of about 10 degrees an hour, not glass lined; A bit more steam then I expected/wanted vented underneath my cabinet.

Comments about Mr. Coffee Optimal Brew BVMC-PSTX91 Brewer:

Our office was tired of coming in on Monday and no coffee was ready, we had to wait for it.. Monday is not a good day to wait for coffee. I purchased the Mr. Coffee smart brew and it is the best money I have ever spent.. I love it and I love how the Carafe keeps the coffee hot even after the warmer cuts off.. It is a must have for sure!

Best coffee maker I have ever owned

By

from Florida, United States

Comments about Mr. Coffee Optimal Brew BVMC-PSTX91 Brewer:

I've had this coffee maker for well over a year now and it works flawlessly. The carafe keeps the coffee hot for several hours without preheating. It tells me when to clean it. It brews a whole pot in minutes. It's quiet, except for some gurgling at the end, which happens for all drip makers I've ever used. Finally, the coffee is great. I grind my beans right before brewing, and I use filtered water. I am totally satisfied and I recommend this maker without hesitation.

Not disappointed at all

Comments about Mr. Coffee Optimal Brew BVMC-PSTX91 Brewer:

Very good brewer. I retired my 23 Mr Coffee for this new one (Christmas gift). After 9 months of use, I am still very happy with it. I would buy this as a gift for someone else.

Steam issue

By

from Indiana, United States

Comments about Mr. Coffee Optimal Brew BVMC-PSTX91 Brewer:

I received an IS series (new in box) Mr. Coffee as a gift. It creates a massive amount of steam as it is brewing and the water seems to evaporate before it can make a full pot. I put 10 cups of water in the reservoir and end up with 1 or 2 cups of very strong coffee when the brewing cycle ends. My overhead cabinet is dripping with condensation. Is there a solution for this?
