Pros. Even with the flaws described below this is an very good headlight. It is so good that from time to time I look at mine and think "I sure hope they keep making them." I don't know of any other headlamp that compares. VERY bright light on high. Excellent light pattern. Can use for close work, or to see longer range. Wonderful that they use 3 AA batteries instead of 3 AAA batteries like most other headlamps (batteries last probably 3 times longer than AAAs, even when powering this much brighter LED light, and AA batteries cost the same as AAA). Well balanced with the light in front and batteries behind your head. Great headband (when new, see Cons below). Well made, except for the flaws in the cons below. Ray-O-Vac honors its lifetime warranty. Cons. Here's hoping Ray-O-Vac product development guys see this along with everyone else. The latches on the battery compartment door are weak. They break in time even when you take care to not break them. And if you drop the headlamp they can break in an instant. I sent some in on the lifetime warranty and Ray-O-Vac sent me new ones. When the same thing happened with the replacements I figured out a velcro repair which has worked out great. Better however would be for Ray-O-Vac to beef up the battery door latches so they can be used as designed with no repairs needed. After a year or so of much use the elastic in the headband fails (gets longer until no more stretch). I am looking for better elastic to make my own that will last longer, but if I can't find it, I will send them back to get new headbands on the lifetime warranty. Maybe Ray-O-Vac can find elastic with a better elastomer (EPDM?)? One side of the battery compartment needs to be a few thousandths of an inch bigger. My rechargeable batteries have to be rotated to just the right spot or they don't fit in the battery compartment on one side. Every one of five headlamps has had this same problem. You can work around it, but why have to? I bought my first lights at Costco. They didn't have the following problem. Only the replacement lights have it. They turn on in your pocket. I am pretty sure it is caused by static electricity and not physically pushing the on switch. If you don't notice they are on, dead batteries when you need them. I used to solve this by opening the battery compartment door when in my pocket, so no power. But the one flaw with my velco battery door repair is I need light to see to fasten the velcro, so I can't cut off the power now (just have to keep an eye on them when in my pocket). Overall, despite the flaws, very good headlamps. And if these flaws were fixed, I think they would be the very best headlamps on the market. Shouldn't be hard to fix these problems if anyone is listening at Ray-O-Vac!

Very Bright

This is a great flashlight. The battery life stated is optimistic is is about half that time before it dims drastically.

Predecessor model 10 years old and still working

By

from Houston ares

Comments about Rayovac Water-Resistant LED Lantern:

I bought for an active hurricane season. Haven't needed to change bulbs yet, 2 or three battery changes. If only one light works then its a warning to change the batteries soon. I typically run it dead then change the batteries.

How to fix the plastic part

By

from Paris, France

Comments about Rayovac Water-Resistant LED Lantern:

Hey guys, from France, sorry for my english. I broke the plastic part while changing the batteries. I thought my headlamp (which I like very much) was ready for garbage. I fixed it by using a piece of inner tube from a bike to keep the different parts together... And my lamp works perfectly. But truthfully, you need to improve this part. Except this, I recommand

Comments about Rayovac Water-Resistant LED Lantern:

I liked it the first time, then weeks later I tried to use it and only one lamp is working, I swapped bulbs and both are good on the single side, so the bulbs is not out, I did get a new bulb anyway and made no difference, would love for it too work again!

rayovac twin tube latern

By

from St. Petersburg, FL, United States

Comments about Rayovac Water-Resistant LED Lantern:

I bought years ago, live in Florida, only really used when necessary, worked great ! Have been using more lately for a reading lamp, I have replaced batteries, just recently only 1 tube will light up, so i replaced both bulbs, so disappointed that bulbs havent fixed problem, only 1 side will light up, enjoyed it so much when both bulbs would work at same time, it was great to use when it worked properly. I would really like to get a replacement, it does state it has a lifetime warranty.

Drains batteries quickly!

By

from Undisclosed

Comments about Rayovac Water-Resistant LED Lantern:

I used this lantern one time for about 2 hours on a camping trip with new batteries. It worked great and was very bright. However, the second time I tried to use it, one bulb would barely come on at the medium setting, and neither light would come on at the high setting. I tried new batteries, and both bulbs work. This will be very expensive to operate if the 8 D batteries it requires only last a couple of hours each time.

Lights No working Properly

By

from Sunrise, FL, United States

Comments about Rayovac Water-Resistant LED Lantern:

We bought this for Hurricanes. And went to use it for a camping trip and the only setting that works is the one bulb setting but when you place on the two blub setting it does not work. We switch the blubs around and the blubs are fine batteries are brand new. We are upset that this is not working properly.

Check the Batteries

By

from Kenmore, WA

Comments about Rayovac Water-Resistant LED Lantern:

I purchased for our frequent power outages and it worked very well. At the last outage, only one bulb would work. I purchased a new bulb but it didn't help. Switched the bulbs around and the new bulb worked but still only one. Finally guessed that low batteries might be enough to light one bulb but not both. Checked the batteries and found them all to be at 1.1 v instead of 1.5. After replacing the batteries, both original bulbs work fine.

By

I received these awhile ago but had to make sure they worked for awhile. I had them in item (remote control) for about 6 months and they are still working great. Definitely would purchase these batteries again.

I like it, but...

By

from San Peedro, CA

Comments about Rayovac Water-Resistant LED Lantern:

A very good flashlight for indoor use and for a reasonable distance on a trail. The BIG advantage is the switch being on the side so you have the light in a comfortable position rather than other with the switch on the bottom. The but? ? It does not glow in the dark.

Broken way too soon!

By

from Western Massachusetts

Comments about Rayovac Water-Resistant LED Lantern:

Red LED good for reading in bed without waking partner. The battery compartment is on the back of your head, with a cord coming forward, which is difficult for hats and reading in bed. The first time I went to change the batteries, a little piece of plastic broke off and now the battery door won't stay shut. The light is now useless.

LIfetime warranty!

By

from Stinson Beach, CA, United States

Comments about Rayovac Water-Resistant LED Lantern:

An old girlfriend got this light for me. She left and broke my heart. But I still have my trusty headlamp! I've had to return it twice. One time the little latch on the battery compartment broke. They promptly replaced it. Another time something inside the battery compartment came apart and I couldn't get it back together. Again they replaced it. OK, so it's had it's problems but RayOVac made good on it. That's more than I can say about my relationship! You gotta love a company that stands behind it's product. I've tried many other headlamps just to see what was out there and where are they now? Broken, discarded, in the landfill and no longer of any use to me. Now I've got a new one these and I am very happy with it!

A fragile workhorse

By

from Yakima, WA, United States

Comments about Rayovac Water-Resistant LED Lantern:

This was the second headlight that I got, the first being a gift. The first one was a cheap light, which I still have. The various functions of this light appealed to me, as well as the separate battery compartment, and the over-the-head strap. Because I am a night owl, I use mine almost every day, working on my car, doing stuff outside, augmenting the lighting in a room. The only thing that I am unhappy about with this headlight is the brittle nature of the plastic battery compartment. I have so far had two headlights go bad on me, both with cracked battery compartments.

Nice design & Very Bright

By

from East TN

Comments about Rayovac Water-Resistant LED Lantern:

I just received this light & so far I really like it. Like the other "indestructible" series lights I own, it's very bright, easy to operate, & seems very well built. I bought this one to keep in our family van for general & emergency use. I'm also a volunteer Boy Scout leader & know this light will get plenty of use during the summer months. I like the fact that the light will stand in a flat or upright position, which can be a handy feature. I own other Rayovac "Xtreme" & "Sportsman Indestructible" lights & have become confident in their reliability. My only complaint is that the handle feels a little too short & is slippery. I'd like it even more if the handle was 1/2 - 3/4" longer so I could fit all my fingers onto it & then give it a rubberized non-slip grip. It may just be me & my big gorilla hands...LOL. I'm sure some grip tape will do the trick. Overall, this appears to be an excellent light.

Have 2 of this model and was very pleased but one

By

from Harvey, LA, United States

Comments about Rayovac Water-Resistant LED Lantern:

Received 2 of these as gifts and was impressed with the design and operation of the assembly. Recently one of the units quit working. I changed battery pack with other unit to no avail. I put the other known good bulb assembly on the suspected bad bulb assembly and it still didn't work. Is there anyplace where I can buy a bulb for assembly...

Glow in the Dark?

By

from Raleigh, NC, United States

Comments about Rayovac Water-Resistant LED Lantern:

Since I assume that all flashlights, by definition, "glow in the dark," if their batteries are working, I thought the handle would glow, too, in whatever color you chose. I bought 2 for my grandchildren for a sleepover. They are nice little flashlights, but we were disappointed by the lack of handle glow.
