I have used green Frog tape for some time to get crisp clean lines around a room. I prefer to tape everything if I am painting fresh drywall. Considering the time for three coats (one primer, two paint) it saves tons of time over cutting in by hand. (paint/primer in one can is a whole different topic!) I tried the delicate (yellow) Frog tape and it was terrible. Would not stick very well until I had at least the primer on to seal it down. So, I went out and bought 3M Blue tape with orange label. This tape worked awesome for me. It never allowed bleed through. I always make sure I have it down using a putty knife or my pinky finger. Pulls off cleanly and leaves a straight line. Yes sometimes a little of the wall paint did come with it, but that is easy to deal with and expected when sticking tape to it one day after application. I'm not a dummy and expect it to be perfect one day later. If you want no peel off, wait a week for the wall paint to 'cure' more. Paint needs about 30 days to dry completely on a molecular level. Bonus is, this tape is less expensive than the Frog tape! I am sold. Thanks for making a great product. 3M knows adhesives.

This is the second time I've had a difficult time with your product, Scotch Blue Painter's Tape for Multi Surfaces #2090. I was painting my kitchen cabinets and used your tape on my kitchen walls, protecting them from the paint I was using on my cabinets. I went to pull off the tape and the paint came off the walls. One spot I could have dealt with but it happened continually leaving me with a new job of buying paint for my walls and painting my kitchen walls. I was told by several people not to leave the tape on the walls for very long. I made sure I didn't. I haven't had much luck with your product and will not recommend it to my family and friends. The completion time was doubled because of your product. I have learned after this job to cut in the trim freehand, using no tape. The only relevant evidence I had was the tape with my wall paint on it. My husband mistakenly threw it away, thinking it was garbage. I did learn by this complaint process that I should have taken pictures of the damage.

Good but could be better

By

Comments about Scotch Scotch-Blue Multi Surface Painter's Tape:

I'm a painter. I use TONS of tape and find that 2080L is NOT good on paper of veneer laminates as it is recommended for. USE caution if you use this tape on these kinds of surfaces. Problems is - all the other types act the same way on these surfaces.

Doesn't stick and bleeds

By

from Portland, OR, United States

Comments about Scotch Scotch-Blue Multi Surface Painter's Tape:

I taped off my walls to paint ceiling of a complete bath remodel. I finished and turned around and it was all falling off. I pressed hard and tried again, it kept falling off. Went straight to garbage. However it did stick to the tile around shower but when I pulled it off, it had bled through and looks terriable. It has caused me so much extra work. Will return what I have and will never buy again.

Peeled the paint back off!

By

from Camden County, GA, United States

Comments about Scotch Scotch-Blue Multi Surface Painter's Tape:

I taped off the entire room thinking I would be able to paint with ease but when I pulled the tape off the new paint peeled off with it. I had to go back and fix many spots and it made the process take that much longer. And it definitely doesn't help that I'm 36 weeks pregnant.

Waste of money, do not buy!!!

By

from Cincinnati, OH

Comments about Scotch Scotch-Blue Multi Surface Painter's Tape:

I bought this tape to tape off a pattern on my dining room wall, thinking it was the best tape out. I was sadly mistaken, it definitely does not "edge lock". I spent two whole weekends working on this just to habe it look terrible because the tape bled through. I will never buy this product or anything from this company again!!!

Horrible!

By

from Lutherville-Timonium, MD, United States

Comments about Scotch Scotch-Blue Multi Surface Painter's Tape:

We bought this tape, NOT a CHEAP tape, After outlining our walls, within 10 minutes the tape started falling off. Went back twice and pressed harder to adhere to wall. NO GOOD. Don't waste your money.

A Great Tool For Mixed Media Crafters

By

from Decatur, GA, United States

Comments about Scotch Scotch-Blue Multi Surface Painter's Tape:

I purchased this a couple of months ago to use on my mixed media project. I like painting with chalk on glass, but did not get great results because of partially sealed edges. With the new Edge-Lockâ„¢, I no longer have that issue

We use our "orange" Scotch Blue Painters Tape for Delicate Surfaces on everyday basis for all our interior painting jobs, especially for our IdeaPaint installations to cut the ceilings, corners, edges, doorframes etc. Simply said: Everywhere we want to achieve the low to medium tape's adhesion.

    took off the paint1

    By

    from Undisclosed

Comments about Scotch Scotch-Blue Multi Surface Painter's Tape:

I bought ScotchBlue Painters tape for freshly painted walls. I waited until the paint was thoroughly dry before using it, but upon removal, it also removed the paint. I then had to touch up all of the paint the it removed. That defeated the purpose of using the tape to avoid having to touch up, right?

    Doesn't work

    By

    from Atlanta, GA, United States

Comments about Scotch Scotch-Blue Multi Surface Painter's Tape:

This product does not work.  I painted stripes on my son's bedroom wall several years ago with standard blue painter's tape and it came out perfect (blue & red picture).  He is moving to a new room and I wanted to replicate it without the red stripe and decided to upgrade to Edge Lock tape this time (blue & grey picture) -- it came out terrible!  Think I need to paint over it-- what a waste!!

    3M 2080EL

    By

    from Clackamas, OR, United States

Comments about Scotch Scotch-Blue Multi Surface Painter's Tape:

Used the 3M 2080 tape with edge lock, didn't work so well. Very disappointed to pay a premium price for what is supposed to be their best tape with very sub-par results. Application was on a rounded corner on a wall with 48 hour old newly applied Behr Marquee paint. First noticed it didn't seem to stick very well so used their technique of brushing it with a dry paint brush after rubbing my fingers along the entire edge. Removed tape after approx. 24 hours after painting, not only did it bleed but it also lifted off the new paint.

    HORRIBLE

    By

    from Warwick, RI, United States

Comments about Scotch Scotch-Blue Multi Surface Painter's Tape:

I used it in my newly re done mudroom to paint the trim, excited to finally be finished I remove the tape and it ruined the paint on the wall I did a week before. Then I used it again on a furniture project and there's not even a straight line, edge lock does not work, look at that paint under the tape.... Ruined my wall and my furniture

    Dont use

    By

    from GA, United States

Comments about Scotch Scotch-Blue Multi Surface Painter's Tape:

I put this tape around the base boards on the floor, after just installing a new hardwood floor in my living room. Not only did the paint bleed through but the tape also peeled the paint right off the crown molding I had installed. I will never buy or use this product again.

    3D printing!

    By

    from New Mexico, United States

Comments about Scotch Scotch-Blue Multi Surface Painter's Tape:

This is a very good tape to use with 3D printing. It has no texture and the tape is smooth giving good results when printing on it. Just add a little Elmers disappearing purple glue to the tape on a heated bed and your prints will work like magic!

No more tape with partial adhesive strip

    By

    from Kenosha, WI

Comments about Scotch Scotch-Blue Multi Surface Painter's Tape:

I have always used the conventional painters tape that had approx. 1/2 inch adhesive and 1.5 inches of paper protector and often required 2 people to install it. The adhesive is lackluster. This tape (2080EL) went one with adhesive holding power so you do not need two people to tape (one to hold one end while the other positions the other end). The tape pulled off easily as well.
