Comments about Uni-ball Power Tank RT Ballpoint Pen Refill:
I have chosen this pen as #1 among my three favorite pens for everyday use. The ink flow and writing smoothness is among the finest pens I've ever used. The pressurized refill allows for writing at all angles, even upside down, with consistency. Unlike many pens that require a stroke to begin ink flow, the Power Tank RT begins writing, immediately. Amazingly, I have not experienced any blotting or skipping.
The first test I make with any pen is to subject the inscribed ink to a drip-water test to see if the ink runs. This ink seems to resist any alteration when exposed to moisture such as rain, condensation (as from water bottles), or perspiration in summer months, so signatures or entries on important documents should remain steadfast.
I have not tested the pen's endurance below freezing temperatures, but I'm willing to take the research and advertising departments' word. I figure they would get too many complaints, otherwise. I have left a couple of these pens outside, in the car, during the seasons and they continue to perform flawlessly, even after long periods of inactivity.
I have to admit that I prefer the more slender grip-feel of the Uniball Signo 207, but the pressurized even ink flow of the "Tank RT" is incomparable, offering an unprecedented sense of security.
I also like the idea the pen is refillable. I have, on a couple occasions, had the end-cap untwist and come off, but this can be remedied with a little rubber cement or other home solution, if necessary. If I had to make only one suggestion for the pen, I would hope Sanford would make the end-cap a little more secure since the clip is attached to it. Because the end-cap protrudes from the barrel, it is more subject to everyday rigors. Maybe a small inserted rubber washer would help, but I believe the end-cap needs to be flush with the barrel. This aside...
If you are looking for a "4-wheel drive" writing instrument, in my view, this pen has yet to let me down. The Power Tank RT and the 207 are what I grab to sign checks, complete important forms, or sign legal documents. If you want the added benefits of the pressurized refill as I do, then, I believe, you'll be making the same choice of "The Power Tank", as well.
