I purchased the V370 Photo Scanner for the primary purpose of transferring a collection of 50+ year old slides to digital media while they were still in good shape. I was a bit skeptical about the units ability to capture the slides with good resolution and ability to deal with faded and color shifted Ektachrome slides. The Kodachrome slides had not aged appreciably. However, the sales person suggested that if I was not satisfied with the performance, I could return it. To make a long story short, it is not going back to the store. The V370 does everything I had needed done and more. The automatic color corrections for the Ektachrome slides, while not perfect, are perfectly acceptable. My only wish is that the cleverly designed slide/film strip adapter would hold more than 4 slides at a time, but I suspect the light source in the lid is the limiting factor. The V370 is well worth the cost and offers substantially more utility than a single purpose slide/film scanner.

It works fine, scans photos and negatives as advertised, and the quality of the scans is good. However, as others have stated, the "user manual" is nearly worthless. It only gives the bare minimum of instruction and leaves many unanswered questions. You need to dig into the software and experiment in order to get the results you want. Example, when scanning negatives, it took quite a bit of trial and error to get a larger size result. Additionally, the scanner is rather slow, and if you use the Fully Automatic mode, it will close after each scan. If you have a large number of photos to scan, you have to re-open the program each time. In the other modes, you have to do a preview scan before it will allow you to do the actual scan. Cumbersome. Additionally, the tray for film is flimsy and seems easily breakable, and you have to remove the "mat" from the scanner to scan film. I suspect the mounting for the mat will break, or the mat frame itself, since they are all thin plastic. Handle with care. However, it works well enough for casual needs, provided you are able to figure out how to use it.

Great for archiving old photos

By

from California, United States

Comments about Epson Perfection V370 Photo Scanner, 4800 x 9600:

Bought this a month ago for standard document scanning. Then decided to digitize old photos --- wedding album etc. Initially I was using Photoshop to import scans but then found the native Epson scan utility worked way better and, when putting a bunch of photos on the scan bed, would recognize individual photos, scan each, and automatically save to my doc/photos folder. Always read the features included! Works great -- terrific quality scans, even improving color & dust on old photos.. Everything then is backed up to a cloud service. We live in a very high fire danger area. Great to now have photos backed up remotely.

I found the scanner easy to use once I received help setting it up. It works with windows 10 but I had to delete a previous scanner to use it. It does very well with old pictures I have been scanning for the family.

so far so good

By

Comments about Epson Perfection V370 Photo Scanner, 4800 x 9600:

Used an earlier EPSON scanner for years and it worked well. I like the fact that my new 570 has a removable lid. I regret that the complete software installation loads unneeded programs but I guess that keeps the price down.

After using this scanner I am thrilled at its performance and ease of use. Software is pretty straight forward and does a good job however I still prefer Photoshop for stitchingredients pictures.

Epson V370 does excellent job

By

from Raleigh, NC

Comments about Epson Perfection V370 Photo Scanner, 4800 x 9600:

have done 35 slides and negatives, photos, and documents all with excellent results. Would take half star off for complicated software. It is not real intuitive. Probably would help to see some youtube videos on what ever you want to do with it.

Poorly Made

By

Comments about Epson Perfection V370 Photo Scanner, 4800 x 9600:

I unfortunately didn't open this until after the warranty had expired...my bad. Out of the box it doesn't work. Makes loud clicking noises when scanning and makes smeared images. The side opening is a pain, too, but it doesn't matter since it doesn't work.

Great Scanner AND Customer Service/Support

By

from Murfreesboro, TN, USA

Comments about Epson Perfection V370 Photo Scanner, 4800 x 9600:

Purchased this because I have a lot of images to scan and the recommendations were pretty stellar for this product and based on the price of the scanner. Please note I am reasonably"tech smart" and can solve most issues on my own. My system that is connected to the scanner is a Dell laptop running Windows 10/64 bit. Unpacked the scanner and went through the setup process with the CD provided. Unfortunately, the scanner would not "see" the laptop (or vice-versa) no matter what I tried. Went online to do some research and decided to uninstall/reinstall the software to see if I made a mistake following the set-up prompts. After everything was uninstalled went to the www.epson.com/support site to do a bit of research first. Then, while looking at the install CD I noticed it was for UP TO Windows 8...OMG...MAJOR DUH!!! Now I am searching on the Epson site for the W10 drivers because I am now well aware of my mistake. I decide to call Epson to see if I should do the W10 driver only or the W10 driver + CD software and if there was a sequence. I got a guy named Mike who was AWESOME!!! We installed the W10 driver only but were still getting the same error message. Tried different USB cords, etc. and the only way to get the scanner to work was through the MS Paint application. Then Mike suggests going into the HW configuration and under imaging there was the scanner and the laptop video camera. Disabled the camera and VOILA...everything works fine now. I am still experimenting with the scanner before I start on the massive photo scanning project but I will caution you. If you scan at the highest resolution is will take several minutes (4,000 dpi) to scan the image. I am looking forward to using this scanner on the project...I believe it will do very well.

does no work with win 10

By

from Arizona

Comments about Epson Perfection V370 Photo Scanner, 4800 x 9600:

I primarally bought it to save the hundreds of slides I have and get rid the ones that have no meaning to me. I have installed it 4 times and download the win 10 drivers and utility with no luck. I am leaving everything in auto and after multiple try's and guess work I did manage to get 4 slides scanned but in the process of saving them they disappeared. I found the software very difficult to use. I will continue to try and find out what I am doing wrong, then maybe I can give it a five star like my Epsom Expression XP-830

Excellent Scanner

By

from Ohio

Comments about Epson Perfection V370 Photo Scanner, 4800 x 9600:

Very nice scanner, fairly quick to scan just about anything. Software worked after installation, no issues at all. Great with photos, and documents. Have not tried the slide/film feature but it is a nice feature to have available. 4 stars as it is a bit bulky and will take some desk space, which is not a problem as long as you plan for it. Go for it.

simple quality scanner

By

from Olmsted Falls, OH

Comments about Epson Perfection V370 Photo Scanner, 4800 x 9600:

Used it to scan slides and some larger photos for storage. Worked great on the slides. Tried a couple of strips of negatives with same good results. Did a great job on larger prints as well. Like the flat bed for fragile older items. Simple to set up. Did have to go to the support site for new drivers, but after that everything working. Having a little problem understanding how to get a pdf. Have always liked Epson products.

Outstanding Scanner

By

from Cary, Illinois

Comments about Epson Perfection V370 Photo Scanner, 4800 x 9600:

Have used this nifty scanner for slides, photographs, and color and black and white negatives and have been very pleased with the results. Only downside is many of my negatives are 120 and 220 film and this scanner only handles 35mm. Strongly recommend this scanner to any one with 35mm slides and negatives they wish to preserve electronically.

Photo Scanner

By

from San Diego, CA

Comments about Epson Perfection V370 Photo Scanner, 4800 x 9600:

I purchased the V370 to scan printed photos, negatives and 35mm slides. So far well over 3,000 images have been processed without glitch. One has to dedicate time to process images, this requires some commitment on big projects, so organizing the photos, destination files, etc. before beginning will help a lot. A good, dependable product overall.

By

from Undisclosed

Comments about Epson Perfection V370 Photo Scanner, 4800 x 9600:

Very nice scanner does a good job. I have not used the slide/negative options yet. My only head scratcher is why they put the buttons in the BACK of the lid opening. If you place the scanner long ways on your desk with the opening in front, the buttons are way back, especially if you place the scanner on a shelf as I do. The connections (USB and power) are just below the control buttons, so they are fine. Everything else trumps that little glitch. I like that the lid opens the wide way. My previous two scanners had the hinge on the short end. I'd buy this again!!!
