3M Ergonomic Mouse - Ergonomic optical mouse earned an Ease-of-Use Commendation from the Arthritis Foundation for its patented, vertical grip design. Vertical grip keeps your hand and wrist at a neutral angle while the mouse works as a regular optical mouse. Unique, ergonomic handshake" grip design has been clinically proven to reduce muscle strain and discomfort from pressure on the wrist's median nerve. The design alleviates discomfort associated with carpal tunnel syndrome and repetitive stress injuries. Simply grip the handle and rest your hand on the base. Use your thumb to left and right click on the top. Third button on side lets you scroll. Corded optical mouse offers USB/PS2 plug-and-play compatibility, 6-1/2' cord for flexible use, and right-handed use."

I tried several other ergo mice, but this one worked best for me. I've been using one of these for about 6 months now. I had one problem that I needed to find a creative solution for, but once I did, I've been very happy. The problem has to do with the thumb position. I tried both sizes, but still had an issue. With my hand on the stick, my natural thumb position was about an inch off to the side of the thumb buttons (away from the side where my hand rests). I had to constantly pull my thumb to the side toward the stick to use the thumb buttons. This caused discomfort in my thumb after a while. The fix was pretty easy (if not pretty). I got some adhesive weather stripping and used it to construct a pad/spacer on the stick to effectively make the stick fatter on the side away from where my thumb naturally fell. I used several strips and sculpted it a bit to make it a perfect fit to my hand. Now when I grab the stick, my thumb naturally rests right on top of the thumb buttons. The padding extends down to the base and also toward my wrist a bit to fully define my desired hand position. Almost perfect! There is one slight downside to my customizing, and that is that the reach to get to third button lower down on the side of the stick is a bit more of a reach, but that's OK because I don't use it all that often. Without my custom fit modifications, I would not use this mouse due to the thumb positioning issue. With my custom fit modifications, I love it!

I received my ergonomic mouse and was excited to see what else it could do besides "just mouse". The owners manual said there was a Software Utility Program that would help orient the mouse and give you the ability to do some other things with the "X-button". When I tried to download the software I got a message that the link was bad. I contacted support and was told the software was designed for Windows XP and the ergonomic mouse "has not been tested for Windows 8" (the exact quote from the 3M support team). Since Windows 8 is now almost 2 years old, and Windows XP is no longer supported by Microsoft, is this mouse and its related drivers no longer being supported by 3M? It feels good, works pretty well, but I'd sure like to have the other features mentioned in the manual that are available with the Software Utility Program. I'd probably rate the mouse higher if the software was available and I wasn't now fearful that with future releases of Windows this mouse could be come obsolete.

TakesTime to Get Use To

By

Comments about 3M Ergonomic Mouse:

I've only had this mouse for a very short time. It does seems a little flimsy on first use... light in weight and buttons don't have much resistance, time will tell if it is reliable. Takes time to get use to moving the cursor and using the buttons... but does provide a very comfortable wrist angle. My hand size overlaps the small/med and large... I have the small and think the large would be better. Scroll button works OK, and with practice maybe I won't miss the scroll wheel. I'm using Win10 and the built in mouse software works OK... I definitely needed to adjust my mouse settings, but that's true of every new mouse I get.

Ok mouse

Comments about 3M Ergonomic Mouse:

Pros: Hand rests naturally, easy to click buttons Cons: L size is still to small, no room for smallest finger. Have to keep it on the outside edge of the pad area. Not very accurate for CAD design. Lots for wrong clicks due to it. Missing scroll wheel. It could be placed in area of second (pointing) finger.

Comments about 3M Ergonomic Mouse:

I started using the ergo mouse 10 or 15 years ago when my finger started hurting from RSI, and have not had a problem since. I recommend it to everyone. All offices should use them.

Have been using it for years, takes a few days to get used to. But should be a medical device it worked so well at eliminating pain caused by standard mouse.

This mouse saved my career!

By

from Vancouver, BC, Canada

Comments about 3M Ergonomic Mouse:

I have worked as a full time software developer for 9 years. This mouse has allowed me to "click" all day and avoids carpal tunnel and wrist strain. I literally can't do my job or career without this mouse (as I also play piano which really needs my hands to be in top shape). Having had bad carpal tunnel in university before using this mouse, my problems actually went away after a year or so of using the 3M Ergonomic mouse. Many thanks to 3M for this excellent and innovative product.

It saved my finger! (...and career?)

Comments about 3M Ergonomic Mouse:

Buying one for my son; I am a retired geologist whose company was big on ergonomics. My work involved seismic interpretation which I did on a workstation, and involved 'thousands' of clicks per hour. My right index finger was going numb after a year of this activity; switched to this 3M mouse, and no more problem, and still was using that mouse at retirement....must have been at least ten years of use. I still use this model.

Works nicely

By

from Zürich, Schweiz

Comments about 3M Ergonomic Mouse:

I am using differnt mice which all function vertically. Especially the 3M is excellent for Long time use or work. Most functions are available. Anyhow, since I use vertical mice - no more pain or uncomfortable Feelings due to carpal tunnel Syndrome. It would be nice to set the pricing a Little lower. to try i bougt the wired Version and now the wireless one. If your having Troubles with your wrist or elbow - go for it.
