First: I would like to say that this printer was advertised as a "Laser Printer" through different suppliers on the internet and by "Best-Buy" salesperson. What I discovered, AFTER MY PURCHASE, was it is a "DIGITAL PRINTER, something I knew nothing about. I would like a clear and distinct explanation of what a DIGITAL PRINTER IS!!! Something like this should NEVER be left open for ANY CONFUSION.....and this is why I cannot give it a 5 star rating... Second: It will not show anything but a blank rendering when I SCAN and highlight "Color Document," it will when I highlight "Color Photo." Third: Why must I have to attach a USB Cable to get it to SCAN a document and place it onto my Computer, if both the computer and printer are "Wireless?" Fourth, Printing, Faxing and Copying are great, clear and the results are sharp images. I love the large paper capacity tray. I love the Color Touchscreen. it's easy to understand and follow its instructions. I like the fact that even though the ink cartridges cost close to $60.00, they give lots of copies before you have to replace. I also like that four separate color cartridges, so if one runs out, you just replace that one and not all. So far I like it and am glad I made the purchase. I'm a "BROTHER" fan!

While this is my first multi-function office machine, I've used all the ??? in stand alone devices. The concept of combining everything in one is very appealing space-wise as well as economically. 1) Printer. The printer works really well. Fast, clear output. It has a versatile driver to accommodate different paper types and a manual feed; I like the straight-through paper path, though the switch to allow heavy weight paper and cards and envelopes is located at the back of the printer and requires a manual change. Inconvenient and one of the reasons for my three-star rating. With the right settings the color print quality is almost photographic; there are even profiles--something I didn't expect is this class device. It seems to use toner efficiently. I'm a low-volume user, but the starter cartridges still have plenty of toner remaining. The cost of ownership seems to be reasonable, a big plus over the competition, with OEM cartridges less expensive. I would never use third party or refilled cartridges. I’ve done that with other brands and it was not worth the savings. 2) Scanner. Great default scans. But, a big disappointment because it has few advanced controls for correcting the scan with only minimal brightness and contrast. I would have preferred a "pro" option that would enable more adjustments, similar to a stand-alone scanner. Another reason for my 3-star rating. The scanner can be controlled from the touch-pad or the Brother scanner driver, or the MacOS scanner driver. 3) Copier. Works, as the scanner can be quite good with the defaults. It has features for minimum image correction, reduction and enlargement, collating, and 2-onto-1 copying. However, the document feeder has creep that places the copied image about 1/8" higher towards the top edge of the copy than the original. For some jobs, this was a problem. A third reason for my three-star rating. 4) Fax. I've only sent two faxes since I installed the 9130. I don't have a dedicated phone line for it, so I just plug in the line as needed. I have yet to received a fax. Set up seemed complicated and I was too lazy to try to configure my answering machine or run a second line. Also, I'm thinking of dropping my land-line, which makes the fax useless. Feature request: a way to scan directly to a internet fax line.

AWFUL! Don't waste your money.

By

from Undisclosed

Comments about Brother MFC-9130CW LED Multifunction Printer:

When it feels like printing it does a mediocre job at best. When it doesn't print it sometimes takes up to 24 hours to print a document that has been sent. I know what you're thinking, must be the internet connection...nope because all other devices work just fine. After deciding to print I can't tell you how many copies have to be printed because the ink comes out scratchy on the paper. Had some hope because we previously had a Brother printer that lasted us YEARS and we were extremely happy with it. The quality of this companies products has gone down dramatically. Our next printer will not be a Brother printer.

Great value all-in-one quality laser printer!

By

from Sioux City, IA, United States

Comments about Brother MFC-9130CW LED Multifunction Printer:

Way more machine than most small businesses would need but remanufactured price was less than other printers sale prices for 1/2 the machine. Only two complaints: although compact for a laser, the paper tray should hold way more paper comparative to its size, display hard to read when sitting. No regrets.

Wireless multi-function printer

By

from Wyoming

Comments about Brother MFC-9130CW LED Multifunction Printer:

I suppose that every upgrade comes with a period of adjustment. The reason I bought this printer/scanner was that the scanning function of my otherwise completely fine ten-year-old printer was not supported by my new computer. But when the new printer arrived, the scanning function didn't work either, and it took two lengthy calls to tech support to get it working successfully. Many people might not have this problem, but for me it temporarily overshadowed the benefits: easy wireless printing, good color printing and copying, (I don't use the fax part so I can't assess that.) Now that it's all working, I like it a lot.

Better than inkjet except for photos

By

from Wisconsin, United States

Comments about Brother MFC-9130CW LED Multifunction Printer:

Used to have inkjet. Was always running out of ink. Toner seems to be a better value, even though it's expensive to replace cartridge. Having hard time copying and printing photos. Doesn't use "regular" photo paper.

Great OCR Capability

By

from Fredericksburg, VA, United States

Comments about Brother MFC-9130CW LED Multifunction Printer:

I convert magazine recipes to MS Word on a regular basis. I had been using a sheet bed scanner on another printer for that purpose until the 9130 came my way. The preview scan function allows me to select just the portion of text that I want to convert. I am very impressed with the ability of the OCR software on the 9130 understand the printed text, including fractions. Thus, there is a minimum of proofreading required to amend words scanned incorrectly. In addition, I am able to have a picture of the recipe on the same arrangement as the text and select just the picture to convert to jpeg for illustration purposes. Just great performance.

Not Quite "All In One"

By

from Coatesville, PA, United States

Comments about Brother MFC-9130CW LED Multifunction Printer:

This machine can print and copy fine with a USB connection. Scanning is a continual problem, as is the wireless operation. More often than not, when trying to do any operation wirelessly, I get a "Printer Offline" message. This is why I bought a USB connection cord.

Great color laser printer

By

from Myrtle Beach, SC, United States

Comments about Brother MFC-9130CW LED Multifunction Printer:

This color laser printer has been flawless since I took it out of the box. Print volume has been excellent. Cost per copy is less than what I was paying for my color inkjet printer. Only wish it had automatic duplex printing rather than manual. Scanner is quick and the image quality is excellent.

Awesome Color All-in-One for Home or Small Busines

By

from Southwestern Virginia

Comments about Brother MFC-9130CW LED Multifunction Printer:

This is my family's third Brother All-in-One over 15+ years and all have offered great features and value. This is our first color unit and its color laser output is awesome. Wireless Color Scanning is a big plus as well. Ink jet printers should be erased from the planet, and this unit is helping to make that a reality. The only let-downs are the flimsy door on top for the ADF (but it hasn't broken yet) and the fact that (unlike our last B&W Brother unit) it doesn't duplex. I thought it would duplex from reading the description, but it is only capable of duplexing if you manually re-insert the page(s). That's not duplexing, folks, unless you're in Marketing apparently.

Comments about Brother MFC-9130CW LED Multifunction Printer:

Have tried to make a copy and it takes forever, have had to cancel and use my older brother copier. Does not connect to my devices have had to install the drivers each time to make a print. Only why i have gotten a print is to send the file to my phone and print from there.

The drum needed replacing long before it was time. My tech guy said that is typical with these. The drum costs so much that I replaced the entire printer instead.

Like it a lot, just wish it were more reliable

By

from Denver, CO, United States

Comments about Brother MFC-9130CW LED Multifunction Printer:

I hate ink jet printers, so 6 years ago, bought a brother MFC for use by my wife and I for our home office. We don't print as tons of pages, but I like the speed and quality of a color laser printer. I just bought my third, as each or the previous printers failed, and I was told it was cheeper to buy a new one than fix the bad processor board. I love features, set up and ease of use...just wish Id had better luck with longevity.

Completely Satisfied.

By

from Broken Arrow, OK

Comments about Brother MFC-9130CW LED Multifunction Printer:

After a very disappointing experience with another manufacturer's customer service, I selected a Brother MFC 9130CW all in one machine. A fax issue, (that ultimately was found to be with my telephone company), prompted me to contact Brother's customer service. They were absolutely incredible at determining the cause and resolving my problem. The unit works perfectly, the prints are very crisp and clear, and the color rendition is excellent. The touch screen is straight forward and easy to navigate. I am completely satisfied and would recommend this model to anyone requiring the features this printer has.

I would like to print Color photos with my laser printer, what is the best paper to use?

      A:

Regular photo paper is optimized for inkjet printers. For laser printers, try a 32 lb. color copy paper like product HAM102630 or product HAM163110 for glossy laser paper.
