I purchased this unit to replace a previous model that was destroyed by a lightning strike. High quality black and white printing, easy to use as light duty fax machine and copier. Wireless connectivity works well with PCs and tablets. Relatively inexpensive high capacity cartridges help provide low cost per page. I have set the default print mode to draft which stretches the cartridges even further with fully acceptable print quality. I have two minor complaints: 1. The automatic document feeder is not as reliable as the older unit and jams frequently. 2. I would prefer a straight paper path so the printer could accommodate thicker paper like card stock. I do recognize that a straight path would create a much larger printer so that improvement would be a detriment for others. This all-in-one is similar to a quality Japanese sedan like a Toyota Corolla or Honda Civic. It does its job efficiently and without fuss. It's reliable and easy to use as well. However, it's a middle of the road device that lacks any kind of "coolness", so it won't impress your hipster or tech savvy friends If you are looking for a simple, reliable B&W laser all in one with low purchase price and low cost per page, this unit is about ideal.

I donated my MFC-7860DW, reluctantly and decided to purchase what I thought was an upgrade. I have only had this printer for a month and it will NOT stay connected to the wireless network for both of my computers. It constantly goes offline. I have had 2 tech support sessions and it STILL goes offline if the machine goes to sleep. I have to shut it off every time I need to use it! I can scan from the control center but cannot scan to a computer, which I question why have the option available on the touch screen. Other things like the quick scan of multiple documents is still fine. But I WOULD NOT recommend this product to anyone. Again, the MFC-7860DW I would; I bought 3! Buyer beware.

Wireless Flaw

By

from Nashville, TN

Comments about Brother MFC-L2740DW Wireless Laser All-in-One, Copy/Fax/Print/Scan:

I generally like the performance of the printer. I am disappointed that even after contacting support, the printer will not retain the wireless network password and requires re input every time I try to print from my computer.

Single-pass input duplexing is great!

By

from California, United States

Comments about Brother MFC-L2740DW Wireless Laser All-in-One, Copy/Fax/Print/Scan:

Reads both sides of a two-sided input doc at same time, saving time and reducing mechanical complexity. Auto duplex printing as well. A bit noisy for a home, but bearable for short runs. Scans two-sided input to paper or directly to your computer as PDF. Prints #10 envelopes. Straight-thru printing available for heavy stock.

Comments about Brother MFC-L2740DW Wireless Laser All-in-One, Copy/Fax/Print/Scan:

Works great, and the quality of the copies and scans is better than expected. Had some issues getting it to connect wireless to my Mac computer. But called Brother tech support and with a little work we got it to connect. Has been working great now for several weeks.

Reliable, works smoothly

By

Comments about Brother MFC-L2740DW Wireless Laser All-in-One, Copy/Fax/Print/Scan:

This is my second Brother MFC and I am very happy with it. My only complaint is that the wireless setup was not at all intuitive and I just gave up and plugged it in hardwired. Maybe I'll give it another try someday when i'm not busy; that would likey be, "never."

Great printer, but bad wireless connection

By

from San Antonio, TX, United States

Comments about Brother MFC-L2740DW Wireless Laser All-in-One, Copy/Fax/Print/Scan:

The printer has great printing quality but the wireless connection is lousy. Once I stop printing for a while I have to shutdown the printer and restart it so that it can connect to my computer or laptop. The rebooting is a bit of an inconvenience but other than that it's a great printer. WAY better than my last one. Its prints out sharp images. I did about 2 weeks of research before purchasing this printer, so I knew about the reboot thing and bought it anyway (I hoped it wouldn't happen to me), however, everyone else gave the same review "great printing quality and the ink lasts a really long time". Additionally, I don't have to worry about the ink drying out like with my previous printers.

Great features, but some problems

By

from Oakland, CA, United States

Comments about Brother MFC-L2740DW Wireless Laser All-in-One, Copy/Fax/Print/Scan:

I love the duplex printing and scanning, but had networking and automatic document feeder problems. At first, it worked fine bc/ I had it hardwired into my router, but then I moved the router to another room. Had lots of problems in getting it to work wirelessly. Uninstalled and reinstalled it. Did everything I was supposed to do, but it wouldn't consistently. I couldn't even get it to connect wirelessly when the printer was right next to the router. Spent about 5 hours working on this. I am above average when it comes to computer literacy and setting up these kinds of things, so I don't think I was doing anything wrong. By the time I moved the router, I was no longer in the warranty period, otherwise I would have filed a claim. I also had a horrible experience with streaks on my copies and scans. I did everything your website said to do: clean that wire thing near the drum, change the drum, change the toner cartridge. When none of that worked, I decided to clean the ADF. That removed almost all of the streaks. Why on earth does your website not suggest doing that when you have streaks? I spent a lot of money on a drum and toner. I couldn't get all of the streaks to go away. I followed all instructions on how to properly clean the ADF and talked to customer support who told me that I did everything I could. They offered to give me another one if I was still under the warranty, but it wasn't. Before buying it, I carefully did my research and found that Brother had the highest reliability ratings. My own experience, however, does not support this. This was my first purchase of a brother product, and it might be my last. Never had so many problems with my printer.

Best Multi-function Yet

By

from Austin, TX, United States

Comments about Brother MFC-L2740DW Wireless Laser All-in-One, Copy/Fax/Print/Scan:

This is my third Brother MFC and this is the best yet. Pretty much every feature and capability you could want, combined with affordable consumables and Brother's well known reliability. Especially impressed with duplex copying--two sided originals to two sided copies! Lighted LCD display makes it easy to set options.

Great value

By

from Meridian, ID, United States

Comments about Brother MFC-L2740DW Wireless Laser All-in-One, Copy/Fax/Print/Scan:

Great value, easy to set up on my home network, print quality is average. A little noisy when printing but that's no issue with me. I had one issue with it dropping from my network but the online troubleshooting process found the problem and fixed it with no intervention from me.

A very good product

By

from Undisclosed

Comments about Brother MFC-L2740DW Wireless Laser All-in-One, Copy/Fax/Print/Scan:

I'm satisfied with the product. I've used it for scanning and copying. I have yet to use the fax function. It works fine. The only issue might be the slightly elevated sound when operating I changed from a Samsung product. The utility for that product was replaced by Windows 10. It was cumbersome to operate and would not allow the use of a pdf product.
