Setup is relatively easy. Wireless setup would be better if Epson suggested using Automatic Wireless setup only if your router only has default settings. In cases where you have setup your router with a unique SSD, have SSD broadcast off or you have specified a password for your router, use the Wireless Wizard instead. This would save time and you wouldn't get the "printer not found" message and have to try rebooting your machine and having to attempt the re-install again. One of my Windows 8.1 64-bit machines would hang at the end of the installation process (99% or 100% complete) before moving to the setup process. I finally resolved the issue by unchecking the box allowing Epson to unblock the firewall on the initial installation window before continuing with the install. I was concerned about some negative comments I read concerning print quality in a few forums and online reviews. So far, I have found the print quality to be very good / excellent on plain paper...both text and graphics. In addition, via epson connect I am happy to now have the ability to print remotely using either my laptop or android smartphone, either via email or by an application such as Word, Excel etc. I'm very happy so far!

Physically setting up the printer was not difficult....assuming you have a strong guy to move it. It's a heavy printer. I like the fact that it is solid and once it is in place, it's there to stay. Figuring out the basic printer, fax and copy was quite easy, but the Epson Scan software was not obvious nor included on my CD.(Only came with Document Capture which didn't work on my mac properly.) Luckily, I was able to contact technical support with a minimal wait time and although the tech seemed a little new to this printer himself...he eventually got me set up with the Epson Scanner software and walked me thru various questions. Here is my HUGE disappointment....I selected this printer over other printers because it has two paper cassettes and a rear feed tray. I thought I had it all planned out. Plain paper in tray 1, 8.5 x 11 paper in the bottom tray and my #10 envelopes in the rear feed. BUT NO! It doesn't work that way. Both trays will only take basic paper. You must feed thru photo paper by the rear tray. And when I am doing envelopes, I was told I could only feed thru one envelope at a time. I can't stack them. So that means I still have to get up from my desk, walk across the room and hand feed every single envelope one at a time!!??!! And change everything around when I want to print photos and then change it back when I want to do envelopes again. DRATS! Had I known, I would have gone with another printer. :-( I don't need two of the same trays for the same plain paper. So I didn't need to spend the extra money to get an extra tray. Worthless to me! And the software won't let you cheat. It refuses to print on photo paper from the trays. You get an error message telling you it detected mismatched paper. I would return it, but I ordered from across the country and shipping it back would be a real pain and very expensive. So I am going to try it for a week or so and see if I can live with it. The print quality is good. And it is quick. Don't know yet how well the inks will last. But based on the paper fiasco, I wouldn't recommend it over the other options out there.

Cost of repair exceeds replacement cost

By

from New Jersey, United States

Comments about Epson WorkForce 4640 Wireless All-in-One Inkjet Printer, Copy/Fax/Print/Scan:

A little over a year old and the printer heads have clogged and the print head cleaning routine will not resolve the problem. I have always used Epson ink. Tech support could only suggest sending it out for repair. Since it is not under warranty the cost shipping and repair exceed the cost of replacement. It worked great until the print heads clogged up. Now it is just an expensive paper weight.

Comments about Epson WorkForce 4640 Wireless All-in-One Inkjet Printer, Copy/Fax/Print/Scan:

Didn't really plan to get the Two Tray model, but the price was right! Love having the option of having two types of paper available all the time. Nice printer, good color, speed, good copies - haven't used the FAX since I do not have a land line. Glad I bought it.

Excellent for every task at hand

By

Comments about Epson WorkForce 4640 Wireless All-in-One Inkjet Printer, Copy/Fax/Print/Scan:

I run a vacation rental business from my home. I have a wide variety of printing, faxing, scanning, and copying needs. This device handles them all with ease. It is quick, easy to use, and kind on the budget when it comes to ink usage (I recommend purchase genuine Epson XL cartridges to avoid problems with performance or warranty and get the most bang for your buck with the extended ink capacity per cartridge). I used it extensively for just over a year when the yellow ink mechanism proved faulty. I saw online that other users experienced this. I contacted Epson and they immediately authorized an exchange of the printer. they delivered it in a timely fashion, complete with a pre-paid FedEx shipping label for return of the faulty unit. I cannot say enough good things about this device and this company. I manage real estate properties full time and I deal with many vendors for appliances and systems who should take a lesson from Epson when it comes to product quality, performance and customer service.

Great Ink-Jet

Comments about Epson WorkForce 4640 Wireless All-in-One Inkjet Printer, Copy/Fax/Print/Scan:

While I personally prefer laser printers I have found the WF-4640 to be a great little printer for the money. The OEM ink IS expensive but thankfully there are good quality non-OEM inks available through the internet.

Excellent Reliability & Features

By

from San Diego, USA

Comments about Epson WorkForce 4640 Wireless All-in-One Inkjet Printer, Copy/Fax/Print/Scan:

We have had this printer for about a year and use it every day for printing, copying, faxing and scanning. While not sold as a photo-quality printer, it does this well given the CYMK cartridges. Biggest feature for me was non-expiring and large capacity cartridges. I highly recommend this product for speed, reliability and low cost per page performance. With 30+ years in the IT community, this recommendation does not come lightly.

This printer is very fast, rather quiet and produces terrific output. The colors are true, it links flawlessly with wifi and lets me go much longer without ink refills. I'm very pleased.

Comments about Epson WorkForce 4640 Wireless All-in-One Inkjet Printer, Copy/Fax/Print/Scan:

I have had a bad experience with my machine. I had to return the 1st one for a new replacement. The second printer caused me problems. It did not want to print. Thankfully Tech Support was able to help me with that issue.

SOLID ink jet printer-cartridges last a LONG TIME!

By

from Knoxville, TN

Comments about Epson WorkForce 4640 Wireless All-in-One Inkjet Printer, Copy/Fax/Print/Scan:

SOLID printer. Two (2) large paper trays (stacked vertically at bottom of unit), HUGE ink jet cartridges (which last a very long time), and very reliable functionality. Definitely the most dependable ink jet printer I've ever seen - or actually, imagined. As reliable as our desktop laser printer. Beautiful color reproduction. I love this printer. I recommend it to everyone. You cannot do better than this particular ink jet printer. LOVE IT!

Much better than the predecessor!

By

from Boca Raton FL

Comments about Epson WorkForce 4640 Wireless All-in-One Inkjet Printer, Copy/Fax/Print/Scan:

We bought 3 of the previous models, the 4540's they didn't do so well with reliability nor did they have a touch screen. This 4640 is GREAT! We need two trays and a smaller form factor for this office mainly because of RX paper on second tray and limited desk space so this line is perfect! I hope they don't discontinue the concept

Never printed well, staggers lines

By

from Boston, MA

Comments about Epson WorkForce 4640 Wireless All-in-One Inkjet Printer, Copy/Fax/Print/Scan:

I have tried every maintenance suggested and this simply does not print a clean page. It breaks lines horizontally so that lines appear italicized. Not acceptable in a professional environment.
