Since my first dot-matrix printer in 1984, I've used printers from a variety (8) manufacturers This MFC-J6925DW is my first experience with Brother. After only three months, this printer is definitely my favorite. In no particular order, is what I like most. 1) Compact; although its paper size can be about twice the size that most inkjet printers can handle, its footprint is only about 50% larger than typical inkjet printers. 2) Quiet; This printer is significantly quieter when printing and does not disrupt phone calls even when sitting right next to the printer. 3) Ink economy; with my other printers, ink cartridges lasted 5-6 weeks. After 12 weeks, my original Brother cartridges are going strong: magenta and cyan, 50% remaining; yellow, 30% remaining; black, 80% remaining. The Brother ink cartridges are lasting 4-5 times as long as other brands of cartridges. I bought a set of backup Brother ink cartridges for about $75...40% less than the last set of cartridges for my prior printer. Cartridges that provide 4 times the life at 2/3 the price means that my savings on ink alone will pay for this printer in just over a year! 4) Easy-access cartridge changing; when a front cover on the printer is opened, all 4 ink cartridges are readily visible and can be quickly and easily changed, unlike some other printers that require a contortionist. 5) High-capacity paper trays; both 250-sheet paper trays can accommodate sizes from small photo paper all the way up to 11X17. 6) Duplex scanning with the automatic feeder is a breeze; even with odd-sized paper like 8-1/2" X 7â€" tax receipts or 6" X 14" credit card statements. I was delighted to discover this printer handles 11" X 17" double-sided (duplex) copying, printing, and scanning as well. 7) Intuitive faxing; I, like many others, believe manuals are only very rarely needed for well designed products and thus avoid them when possible. Apparently the fax capability was designed with us in mind. I never faxed from a printer before but I found that following the menu choices was all that was needed to successfully send and receive faxes. 8) Linux performance; I do not use Windows or OS/X, so solid Linux drivers are important not only for printing, but also for scanning. After downloading and installing Brother's Linux drivers, using Linux Ubuntu 16.04, I put this printer through its paces -- testing every function and feature. All all passed with flying colors. 9) USB, LAN, and phone cables connect neatly to clearly labeled ports below the scanning bed; this means cables are accessed from the front â€" no need to crawl around on the floor behind the printer. 10) WiFi setup was a snap; in my home office I use WiFi with the Brother iPrint&Scan app to print from 2 smartphones and a tablet. WiFi printing is simple and flawless. 11) Jam-free printing and scanning; I print 8-1/2 X 11 and 11 X 17 both single-sided and duplex as well as various sizes of premium glossy photo paper. The paper handling was perfect in every case. So what's not to like? Only one thing. When using the rear paper feed slot, the side paper guides move too freely. This means that they move outward with the slightest touch, which can then skew the page that’s being manually fed. The workaround is to position the guides against the page being fed as the very last step before printing.

The large scanning bed is great and the scanning lid has lots of flexibility for odd shaped books and things. The scan utility "Control Center" is adequate. The ability to place your files in the desired folder is cumbersome unless you want to put them in recently used folders. To select a new folder that hasn't been recently used you have to start at your root folder and select each successive folder. The ability to navigate within your existing folder structure would be nice. There is no ability to change scan settings within a scan file. So if you set it to ADF and scan two pages then want to add a page off the scanning bed you have to create two files. The dual scan mode is OK. It seems to always produce tilted results that require straightening. Sometimes you have to rescan because they are so skewed they cut text off when straightened. Still better than flipping the originals. The automatic size detection is infuriating. It seldom gets the right size resulting in cut off scans that have to me rescanned with manual size selection. I also wish the ADF could handle smaller material but it wasn't advertised to do so and I don't downgrade it for that. Printing is a disappointment. The only way it prints 11x17 is through the bypass feeder which only takes one page at a time. After many hours spent with Brother Support through email I still can't get it to print the return address of an #10 business envelope any closer than 0.866" to the edge of the envelope even though it can print to within 0.1" on regular paper. I'm told it's the software but the software keeps telling me the printer won't allow the settings I'm entering and auto corrects to 0.86". If I manually set it to 0.25" it just cuts off the address and leaves a blank space until 0.86". I use this printer for my business and now I have to either leave the return address off my envelopes, hand address them (unprofessional), or purchase preprinted envelopes. I haven't used it enough to see if the ink really lasts longer but it prints business material adequately. I haven't tried photos.

Great features

By

from Louisville, KY, United States

Comments about Brother Business Smart Pro MFC-J6925DW Wireless MFP with INKvestment Cartridges:

The Brother MFC-J6925DW all-in-one has great features at a reasonable cost. I especially like that the ink for this printer is reasonably priced and affordable. It probably works as advertised with Windows machines, but is not well-suited the Mac OSX environment. For one thing, it is difficult to set up and stabilize. After hours of trying to set it up to scan, I finally phoned Brother support and, spending an hour so on the phone with a very helpful representative, was able to get it to scan properly. As an experiencd OSX user, the support rep surprised me by taking me through menus both in the print driver software as well as Mac's wireless setup software that I had never encountered before. Compared to HP all-in-one printers, this Brother machine while promising more at a reasonable price do so by using software that is essentially incompatible with the Mac OS. If you want a printer that is easy to set up and works well with OSX, get an HP. If you want one that has great features and whose cost per copy is significantly less, then this Brother machine is much better--though be prepared to spend days trying to get all the functions to work reliably.

Constantly jams

Comments about Brother Business Smart Pro MFC-J6925DW Wireless MFP with INKvestment Cartridges:

If you use any paper other that letter size plain paper the printer will jam. When using photo paper it jams on almost every page. This printer is awful which is an understatement.

Better Printer

By

from Pompano Beach

Comments about Brother Business Smart Pro MFC-J6925DW Wireless MFP with INKvestment Cartridges:

I originally bought the J6920 & had to return it b/c the paper feeder would always pull too many sheets of paper. This unit works much better. My only complaint is how the trays work with Airprint. Unfortunately, any Airprint will default to the upper tray where I have 4x6 photo paper. I called Brother, but there is no way to have Airprint default to the lower tray.

Worst Printer Ever

Comments about Brother Business Smart Pro MFC-J6925DW Wireless MFP with INKvestment Cartridges:

So very sorry that we purchased this terrible machine. Fails to print simple documents. stops in mid job and indicates error - but no error code or way to determine what has occurred. ALSO Fails when scanning to the Network. We wanted this model so that we could get 11x17 printing and scanning. We can not even get the machine to print out 8 1/2 x 11 print jobs without failing.

ACCEPTABLE PRODUCT AT AN AFFORDABLE PRICE

By

from Houston, TX, United States

Comments about Brother Business Smart Pro MFC-J6925DW Wireless MFP with INKvestment Cartridges:

Overall, this unit prints acceptable office documents with and without graphics but even the best results are more of a "draft" quality even though we use 96 Bright plain paper. Even after changing from Natural to Vivid and adjusting other settings, blacks are just NOT black enough and actually closer to gray. Another complaint is that it is rather slow to start printing. On a positive note, cloud printing was successfully accomplished even though the procedure was buried in an unusual place in the printer's online web portal. I can still recommend this printer as long as fast printing and excellent quality are not a critical requirement.

Amazing Printer

By

Comments about Brother Business Smart Pro MFC-J6925DW Wireless MFP with INKvestment Cartridges:

I have this multipurpose printer installed on a slide out shelf in a motor home. It is connected with a wireless ooma phone adapter to an ooma line via the internet. It has been in use a little over a year, and I just had to replace all of the color cartridges, but not the black one yet. I use the printer in support of two small businesses as well as for personal use. We have several pcs and cell phones which use the printer for printing and have never had any problems. I scan in EVERYTHING to the FILING CABINET folder on my PC. The printer works great and the single pass double sided scanning saves me a lot of time.

Great on toner use!

By

from Marathon, FL

Comments about Brother Business Smart Pro MFC-J6925DW Wireless MFP with INKvestment Cartridges:

My last printer went through toners at an amazing rate but this printer is very economical on toner use. Good print quality & scans well. I do have a problem with this machine though. I process several large payrolls that use checks & they jam all the time. I finally started printing 12 checks at a time to prevent this from occurring. Now I'm down to 10 at a time. This causes a loss of time for me and my bookkeeping practice. Also I have had to void many a check.

Color quality is poor

By

from Denver, CO, United States

Comments about Brother Business Smart Pro MFC-J6925DW Wireless MFP with INKvestment Cartridges:

Color printing/copying quality is disappointing and I would consdier quality to be poor. For me the biggest advantage is to be able to scan 11x17. If print/copy quality was better I'd be thrilled that this print can print/copy 11x17 but with poor quality I'm less than thrilled. Also copying speed is very slooooow. But it is an inkjet and it is an inexpensive 11x17 capable multifunction printer so expectation shouldn't be too high.

excellent for the price

Comments about Brother Business Smart Pro MFC-J6925DW Wireless MFP with INKvestment Cartridges:

Good workhorse, but slow in "best" mode. Huge areas in one color tend to have white lines when not in "best" mode, although the alignment test seems good and the cartridges are full. If the printer doesnt get your specific colors right, get an ICC profile, we did it and it worked pretty well. Love it !

Steady Performer with Great Printing Quality

By

from Federal Way, WA, United States

Comments about Brother Business Smart Pro MFC-J6925DW Wireless MFP with INKvestment Cartridges:

Scanning software is simple but allows flexibility. Printing is quick and letter quality is great, very easy to read compared to the other printer in our office. It's a little louder than I had anticipated but not obnoxious or anything. We got this to replace our previous Brother printer which had an amazing run before it needed to be replaced.

Comments about Brother Business Smart Pro MFC-J6925DW Wireless MFP with INKvestment Cartridges:

I had the MFC-6920DW before this one. It was good. Then it wore out. I got this one, which is functionally exactly the same. The only difference is the kind of ink cartridges used. And the claim is that the ink usage is much less. We'll see.

Large glass for copies AND scans

By

from Kingston, NY, United States

Comments about Brother Business Smart Pro MFC-J6925DW Wireless MFP with INKvestment Cartridges:

Overall this printer has been great. Large glass for copies and prints, large paper size, good ink prices. Two not so good things - the print quality is OK unless you change it to best quality particularly with color and I still can't make it print on custom sized paper. Three rounds with email support but it just doesn't work. This one one of the feature I really wanted and so I'm disappointed.
