I gave a bad review which I wanted to edit, but Fellowes never posted it. My shredder stopped working a month after warranty and thought it was a defective power switch. It was not. So if your shredder stops working, look down into the slot - if you see paper - use a letter opener or something similar to remove or stir the paper around, now run in reverse to clear the jam. Now you will see a small piece of plastic in the center which was held down by the paper jam. In order for the shredder to turn on, the paper you put in has to push that little tiny piece of plastic in order to turn on the shredder. I hope I've helped someone, especially those people who did complain their shredder quit working.

I grew tired of buying the typical house brand shredders that would die after a year of use and sprung for a far more expensive W-11c. I had high hopes that this would be the shredder that lasts. When new, it would chew through junk mail, cd's, and credit cards without mercy. I oiled it religiously to make sure this would last. We went through about a bag a month of shredded material. While it does have a strong build, the shredder has a serious weakness. The input sensor is a piece of junk. Seriously. It quit working a few months after the 1 year warranty expired. I would hope that a manufacturer would use a popular internet search engine and see the large number of complaints of these shredders only working in reverse. I have tried the credit card gimmick as mentioned by the manufacturer. It didn't work. The only way to get it to work again would be to replace the switch or defeat it. Not cool folks. A more robust paper sensor design would be very easy to create... Another bit of advice to the engineers at Fellowes. Don't make a top heavy shredder with a narrow-base trash bin. Sure it looks cool to have a tapering trash bin, but it really is a stupid idea in the real world. The shredder will tip over if bumped. I'm sure you all learned "keep it simple stupid" while studying engineering. In fact, I'd be willing to give your future designs the common sense test for you for free if no one in the office gets it. That said, I really wanted to like this shredder. If it had lasted longer I would have had mostly positive things to say, except the balancing issue with the trash bin.

Comments about Fellowes Powershred W11C Cross-Cut Shredder:

After clearing the umpteenth jam in my old shredder, I got mad enough to go online and pursue a new one. For my home/office use, many reviews pointed to the Fellowes W11C Shredder, and I ordered one. It arrived within three days, and we went to work on a big pile of paper needing to be shredded. I was in a hurry and tried hard to jam this machine to no avail--it just kept creating those little bits of paper like it was having a good time. We have gone through a lot of material since, and my only regret is why I did not buy this shredder a long time ago!! Thanks Fellowes!

This shredder Model# W11C is all that it was advertised to be. Very sturdy, big bin, safety switch user friendly, handle makes it easy to lift the shredder head off. The only thing not so great is the noise factor, a little too loud. Fits into the space in our home office perfect. Cord long enough to reach power strip.

Comments about Fellowes Powershred W11C Cross-Cut Shredder:

As a special education teacher I deal with a lot of confidential documents. I love having the connivence of shredder in my classroom so as not to have a pile of documents on hand to carry down to the office. This is my second shredder in 5 years and I love the power and performance of this newest model. I will say however, that I already foresee a problem and I've just had this one for a month. The plastic strip that lines the inside of the basket - which must align to the shredder itself in order for it to operate. Since this strip is plastic, it's already starting to bend and thus the shredder has already had a hiccup in operation. Luckily, our custodian is familiar with this issue (as he had to fix it in our last shredder). I know when the time comes, he'll be ready to reinforce this strip - I just wish this was something he wouldn't have to do.

Comments about Fellowes Powershred W11C Cross-Cut Shredder:

In 2010 we shopped around for a shredder for home use. The W11C had the performance, price, and Fellowes reputation for quality we were looking for. It shredded all the paper we fed it for six years without a hiccup. The only blemish on the perfect rating occurred last week -- the power cord failed at the connection to the shredder head and shorted out. Six years of flexing/kinking during handling was apparently too much for it. On the other hand, six years of flawless service at the price point of the W11C still made it a winner in our book. We ordered a replacement the next day, and we will take better care of the power cord. (I will improvise stress relief on the cord connection with an inch of plastic tubing -- this new unit may operate forever!)

Only gave 4 out of 5 stars for some answers because sometimes shredder gets jammed. Otherwise really like the shredder. Affordable & constructed well. Not super loud. Using the oil makes a great difference. Make sure every time you go to use it apply the oil through the paper opening going across several times. Also when emptying the bucket & you can use it again. If it stops working its because its overheated. Just wait 45-60 minutes & you can start up again. Try not to put more than 6 pages at a time depending on thickness.

Just got it as a replacement and purchased it because of the Fellowes reputation. I like it because of the safety lock out feature and the eleven sheet capacity. First one I owned that instructed you to oil after each basket fill but it sure does make sense. It would of been nice to have a sample of oil with the purchase though. Looking forward to many years of use !!

In the last 40 years, I have used various shredders. Paper jam was a common problem. Oiling never really corrected the problem. This is the first Fellowes shredder. It has been an amazing tool, doing the work without issue at all. It cost 20-30% more, but it is really worth it. I highly recommend this W11C shredder.

This shredder is sold at a good price, it is child safe, the result is small cross cuts, and it takes 11 sheets; plus it is jam proof and won't burn up from overheating. My only dislike is that it's motor is so buff that it is slightly louder than I would like, but more sound proofing may not be possible and or definitely would likely drive up the cost. I would pay a little more for a quieter shredder, but for now, I'm sticking with this one; plus I've come to like Fellows products!

Have only had it for short while but it performs very well. A bit noisier than my old Fellowes shredder than lasted 15 years. With the shredder on top of the basket it makes no mess as compared to the front pull out bin

Just bought this shredder and it works fine so far. Not sure how I cut myself assembling it but it was probably my fault for not being careful. That being said, this is the 5th shredder I've owned in my life and I've never cut myself before. Also, I'm not sure of the purpose of the "open slot" to the bin. Is this so you can use it as a trash can as well? The instructions don't say and I have never seen an "open slot" on a shredder before. The reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is it this is the loudest shredder I have ever heard (and this my 5th!)

I purchased the W11C to replace an older strip shredder I had. Appreciate the handle on the head that facilitates lifting the mechanism out of the collection bin! Cons: No handles on he collection bin. Difficult to pick up and move the entire unit without removing top. I just put an appropriately sized Glad bag in the collection bin. No mess! Easy!

We purchased this shredder in July 2015. Very noisy shredder. Now we are having problems, when you finish shredding paper, it continuously runs and the motor is shrieking, very loud. I have been using the lubricating sheets and I feel like the motor needs to be oiled. Any suggestions or is it starting to die. ??
