Comments about Crayola Short Barrel Colored Pencils:
Crayola has some wonderful products and quite a few of them, but I honestly don't know what the intended use for this Short Barrel colored pencil is. The box itself employs a "stadium seating" arrangement of stepped-up rows that partially disguise the fact that the pencils are SHORT - 3.5 inches (9 cm) long, half the normal industry length of 7 - 7.5 inches. They are difficult to hold and work with, especially for little fingers. (Think of a bridge-club pencil or golf pencil, which they resemble except for having the 3.3mm colored cores instead of "lead" graphite in the middle.) There are no erasers on the ends, yet the pencil marks are not the easiest to erase without a high-quality (non-latex-containing) eraser.
It was an interesting effort but Crayola has so many other, more deservedly popular products, most of which cost not much more: regular crayons, 12 to the box and up, metallic crayons and pencils, standard (7-inch-long) colored pencils beginning with the same color as here and extending to boxes of 24, 36 and (my favorite) 50. Crayola even has its own line of Erasable Pencils!
It costs so little more to go with the genuine article, standard-length colored pencil (in a pinch, there are other similar brands out there too) -- that I can't find anything compelling with this brand, nor have any of the other reviews I've read at other sites. Just please consider what 3.5 inches really means, and whether you'd like to write, draw or sketch with it.
I bought these Short Barrel color pencils with my own money for my own use, but now I wonder why. It hasn't dimmed me on Crayola, but it has made me suspicious of boxes containing some hollow space.
