I purchased this keyboard after using the X120e laptop by Lenovo. The tactile response and key layout is by far the best I have ever used. I only have one gripe about the keyboard. I wish there were function controls for pause/play, and fast forward. The x120e has these options and I really notice their absence. I would have easily given up the alt-tab shortcut, windows "Find" and whatever function is added to F12 (doesn't do anything on Windows 7 Pro that I can tell). Lastly, I felt the price point was a little high but for Lenovo quality and the specific design I was looking for I was willing to pay for it.

I'm an X windows user, and make extensive use of the middle mouse button with the trackpoint. I've used many Lenovo laptops and keyboards and until now loved them all because they had a three button mouse built right into the keyboard. Unfortunately, the middle mouse button on this keyboard is not really a middle mouse button, because it doesn't allow you to drag. The minute you drag, the mouse button is reported as released and instead up and down movement gets reported as scroll wheel events. Worse, I can't even get the horizontal scroll wheel to work, because it seems to get reported as a completely different class of usb hid event. What's so frustrating about this is that it's trivial to configure the X server to emulate a scroll wheel given a third mouse button, but almost impossible to do the converse. Why did Lenovo do this do the keyboard instead of just having the driver software or configuration handle scrollwheel emulation for people who want it?

Small, light. Bulletproof!

By

from Elmer, NJ, United States

Comments about Lenovo ThinkPad Compact USB Keyboard with TrackPoint - US English:

Small - light - as is usual with all the old Lenovo keyboards, totally bulletproof. I HAD to get one before they stopped including their pointing stick, which it seems, they are slowly phasing out. At least this way, I'll always have my pointing stick! So now i use a big (Lenovo, of course) - 19" monitor, cause it was the lightest one I could find, with a pc desktop. so I could build my own "laptop" platform I could sit on my lap. It's still a work in progress, but I already like it. As usual, the little arrow has already started moving around on it's own like they all do, but it's the small price you pay - to have a pointing stick, & that's the ONLY reason i marked "good' - instead of "Excellent"

Middle mouse button is broken

By

from Undisclosed

Comments about Lenovo ThinkPad Compact USB Keyboard with TrackPoint - US English:

I wish I had read the other review about the middle mouse button before my purchase! It's broken - dragging with it is not possible, the keyboard pretends like it's a scroll wheel. It seems the Windows driver supports toggling this, but since it's done in the firmware of the keyboard, Linux users are up the creek.

Just Like On My T450S

By

from Madison, WI, United States

Comments about Lenovo ThinkPad Compact USB Keyboard with TrackPoint - US English:

Keyboard has the same feel as the T450S keyboard which is great, but it really needs a number pad. Without it there's not much reason to buy this keyboard as there are comparable ones that include the number pad or cost much less.

Love Thinkpad keyboards

By

from Chicago, IL, United States

Comments about Lenovo ThinkPad Compact USB Keyboard with TrackPoint - US English:

And this one is very good too. Too bad Lenovo doesn't make this their full feature keyboard. This keyboard with a numeric keypad and biometric fingerprint reader would be the best keyboard ever. Lenovo, please bring out that best keyboard ever.

Love the incorporated TrackPoint, and the size

By

from Undisclosed

Comments about Lenovo ThinkPad Compact USB Keyboard with TrackPoint - US English:

Very nice size. I'm using this with a massive dual CPU, triple GPU stationary Windows 7 Pro PC. Great for productivity to have this and be able to switch to a Lenovo laptop and the fingers are already accustomed to everything. Excellent function buttons at the top. Two downsides: 1. Sometimes there's mouse creep. The mouse cursor slides across the screen, and I have to push to keep it in place, or else it slips down to the lower right hand corner. When that happens the display window switches to my desktop area. I've read others have the same problem. 2. Sometimes the speaker volume and mute buttons hang. I have to open up the speaker control in Windows, and then everything works well again. Odd.

Great keyboard

Comments about Lenovo ThinkPad Compact USB Keyboard with TrackPoint - US English:

OH, what a lovely keyboard! Missed my old Lenovo laptops keyboard, and this is absolutely close enough. Only one thing: I reallly miss to be able to click with the Trackpoint, that's kind of annoying. But very, very nice NOT to have to move your hand and reach for the mouse all the time. The keys are the normal Lenovo high quality.

KU1255 Keyboard

By

Comments about Lenovo ThinkPad Compact USB Keyboard with TrackPoint - US English:

No USM cable comes with it. You have to supply your own. Minor. I sure do wish it was bigger. The 40A5091 was much nicer, please bring it back!! If not that exact model some version of a full size keyboard with a Trackpoint.T Lenovo has inherited the brilliant Trackpoint design. OK skid pads won. I cannot understand why they did but that is the way it is. But for those of us that use the TrackPoint there is nothing better if you make it I will buy it. Myself and I am sure many others will.

X1 Carbon Dream Come True

By

Comments about Lenovo ThinkPad Compact USB Keyboard with TrackPoint - US English:

I purchased the ThinkPad USB 3.0 Hub for my X1 and last second decided to see if Lenovo had the forethought to port over the amazing keyboard from the X1 to a USB. Thank goodness. This thing feels amazing. The first one I received had the middle scroll button stick a little. 5 minute call to Lenovo and a new one was on the way at no charge with a prepaid box to ship the old one back. Fantastic customer service on top of a fantastic product makes it hard to recommend anything else. On a side note: Lenovo, whenever you decide to update this keyboard I have two suggestions: 1. Make it back lit (I would buy another one tomorrow). 2. Don't use the newest X1 keyboard layout. Not a fan.

The older model of ThinkPadt USB Keyboard better

By

Comments about Lenovo ThinkPad Compact USB Keyboard with TrackPoint - US English:

The older model with bigger palm rest and separate volume keys was much better. Please bring it back. The new model can be usefull also if one wants really small, but still full size ergnomical kayboard. But the older model was even more ergonomical.

Great for travel but also wrist / shoulder relief

By

from Undisclosed

Comments about Lenovo ThinkPad Compact USB Keyboard with TrackPoint - US English:

This is a really great keyboard. The form and size allows for travel but I've got these for my desktop machines at home and work. The low profile helps with wrist strain and the compact size allows the mouse to be closer and your shoulder positions to be more neutral which is really nice. You can SWITCH the Ctrl and Fn key functions if you like. It's in the manual. That said, I haven't switched it and I use the Ctrl key extensively without issue. Also, I keep the F# keys active instead of the multimedia keys.

Fn key is where the Ctrl key should be!

By

from Undisclosed

Comments about Lenovo ThinkPad Compact USB Keyboard with TrackPoint - US English:

I really tried to like this keyboard. It has so much about it that is GREAT. However, after 2 months of trying to get used to it, I just couldn’t: the Fn key is where the Ctrl key should be! I use the Ctrl key A LOT (e.g., copy/paste and a zillion other important keyboard shortcuts). I need to be able to reliably hit it without looking for it. This is no longer possible as it is not in the most logical place: the bottom left corner. I am therefore going to have to sell my brand new keyboard on eBay because I simply cannot get used to this. I therefore advise everyone to think long and hard about where they need their Ctrl key to be, as it is not in the right place on this keyboard. Michael

Great portable keyboard

By

from Undisclosed

Comments about Lenovo ThinkPad Compact USB Keyboard with TrackPoint - US English:

I needed a portable keyboard that I can take with me for work and since I love my personal x200 keyboard I figured that this new compact USB keyboard would be a great place to start. The keyboard worked fine in plug and play mode but installing the Lenovo driver allows changes to the TrackPoint speed which was a nice improvement for my setup. I took off one star for the design since I still prefer the old style keys but overall no one else comes close for laptop keyboards.
