I was getting a lot of pain in my "mouse hand." I'm a graphic designer and I do intricate Photoshop work. I tried an old Kensington mouse that the company had in storage. It made a huge difference in my work. The pain disappeared. I just now bought a new one. And I also bought one for home (the less expensive blue version). When they first arrive, the roller balls are somewhat tight, but they loosen up with use. The old one I had was super loose (which made mousing easy). The only reason I had to get a new Expert Mouse is because the roller ball had a nick in it, and that caused the mouse to hang up when I was drawing in Photoshop. Very good product -- it has helped my hand tremendously.

the K64325 is my favorite trackpad of all time. However, the software for OSX (currently on Mavericks) is TERRIBLE. I can no longer assign buttons or use any of the features that made the mouse great. Currently it's just an expensive mouse that's comfortable. How does Kensington let something as simple as easy to write software fall between the cracks? It used to always work fine with a mac, with every update it's gotten worse to the point where it can no longer do anything other than regular mouse function. Don't buy, vote with your money.

Disappointed after all these years

By

from Tampa, FL, United States

Comments about Kensington Expert Mouse Trackball - USB w/PS2 Adapter:

I have had Kensington trackballs in the past and moved to the Magic Mouse with my new iMac. After, again, getting frustrated with having to lift my mouse so many times to move across a 27" screen, Bought a new trackball. The same one I used for years. I am deeply disappointed in the lack of smoothness in it's movements. I cannot roll the ball across very short distances without jerking or "yips, as it is referred to in golf. And the wheel scrolling is awful. I cannot smoothly scroll up and down. it jumps at least 300 pixels at a time. Completely defeating the purpose of my wishes. I need to scroll through lines of HTML and CSS in browsers and html editors and having the lines jump that much is very very frustrating. Hopefully Kensington sees this and has a solution. Otherwise I will be returning it and back to the frustrating magic mouse.

Buttons are fantastic, scroll ring is awful

By

from Toronto, ON, Canada

Comments about Kensington Expert Mouse Trackball - USB w/PS2 Adapter:

I was torn between the Expert Mouse and the Slim Blade. The Expert Mouse has far superior push buttons whereas the Slim Blade has a much better scrolling mechanism. The scroll ring on the Expert Mouse is borderline unusable and sounds like it is grinding. Too much friction to smoothly scroll. I checked YouTube and other reviews and this seems to be normal for the scroll ring. I ultimately returned the Expert Mouse and stuck it out with the SlimBlade because the scroll functionality is much better on the SlimBlade. If only Kensington would make a Wireless Slimblade with Expert Mouse buttons that would be a killer trackball....

Started off clunky but getting better

Comments about Kensington Expert Mouse Trackball - USB w/PS2 Adapter:

I been happy with Kensington products for years and in particular the trackball which was used until the thing just gave out. Had been waiting to get a new one with the wireless expert mouse. Well, I finally broke bought one. It's was really remarkably easy to set up, but then I noticed the scroll ring just felt clicky and clunky. Having used it a couple weeks now, it's gotten more bearable.

The bluetooth also started to drop in and out frequently, but after an embarrassing call to tech support it turned out the batteries had just run low -- it does still drop out, but much less frequently (maybe every 2 minutes or so). Switching to the USB wireless seems to have helped.

I've resolved myself to be okay with this unit, however I would like to see the next generation and hope the fit and finish improves over this first generation.

Good Product

Comments about Kensington Expert Mouse Trackball - USB w/PS2 Adapter:

Makes navigating the web much easier. The only problem I've had is the Trackball Works software won't retain my custom settings when I turn the computer off. I have to open Trackball Works, and then the settings come back. Can you fix this?

Harmful Software

By

from Ipswich, MA, United States

Comments about Kensington Expert Mouse Trackball - USB w/PS2 Adapter:

I had this wired trackball for years and finally installed the software in win 10. After reboot, a glide over the desktop triggered 30 icons, and windows flooded the screen...! It almost wrecked my system...! Disconnecting the trackball allowed setting of the software with a DIFFERENT MOUSE! IT CORRECTED NOTHING! I had to de-install the software to keep from wrecking my system...!

cannot get the trackballworks software running

By

from Wilsonville, OR, United States

Comments about Kensington Expert Mouse Trackball - USB w/PS2 Adapter:

installing the software, that I felt I had to dig to even find, stop the mouse from working on Win 7 X64. cant find a way to contact support. This was recommended by or internal ergonomic evaluator. I fully intend to review this moving forward. If we are going to recommend a product to employees I want it to function or at least has some form of support. I will be returning this shortly.

I could never go back!

By

from Manchester, United Kingdom

Comments about Kensington Expert Mouse Trackball - USB w/PS2 Adapter:

I bought this a couple of weeks ago and it's going to be impossible for me to ever go back to a standard mouse! The user programmable buttons are a lifesaver, I work in professional audio and trust me this trackball is going to save you tonnes of time when editing, just hold control and move the scroll wheel and it zooms in and out, set one of the 4 buttons to double click, this saves a lot of time as well, plus is feels great and is very comfortable once you get used to it, web browsing is also now a joy, I can work at double the speed I could before, for me that makes it worthwhile.

By

Comments about Kensington Expert Mouse Trackball - USB w/PS2 Adapter:

Ive been using trackballs since Kensington produced their first model. I just bought the Expert Mouse, but the mouseworks software that allows me to program the buttons wont install saying there isn't enought disk space. I have 2 T free on this machine. I t wont install from a portable disk or thumb drive either that have only gigs free. Always gives the same message Insufficient disk Space.

Build quality is OK, Trackball itself works great

By

from Philadelphia, PA, United States

Comments about Kensington Expert Mouse Trackball - USB w/PS2 Adapter:

I bought the Expert Mouse a couple years ago and have been using it daily for regular computer usage (e-mail, web, etc.) and 2D CAD work. I would estimate the total hours of usage to be over 12,000 hours.

THE GOOD:
------------------------------
+ The feel of this trackball is fantastic. The 2.25" ball is the perfect size for my hand (which has a span of 9").
+ As a pointing device, the Expert Mouse is fast and accurate. With a little tweaking in TrackballWorks, I can easily move my mouse across 2 monitors (1920X1080 each) with a single swipe of the track ball.
+ TrackballWorks functions as intended in Windows 7. It is also very easy to configure.
+ The buttons have a very nice feel. They are easy to press and the bottom two buttons are very comfortably placed.
+ The scroll wheel is incredibly useful and easy to use.
+ Takes up very little work space.

THE BAD
------------------------------
- The mouse body itself has 3 tiny, plastic beads that are mounted within the 'socket' for the trackball. These 3 little beads serve as the surface the ball glides on. Unfortunately, a bead has gone missing in my unit and now the ball drags in horrible ways. This has rendered the Expert Mouse useless for me.
- People are right about the ergonomics of this mouse. If you have your desk set to the proper height, then the ergonomics of this mouse isn't bad. It isn't great either. The angle of the Expert Mouse's surface is a little too steep for my comfort. I am not crazy about the wrist padding they provide, as it has a cheap feel and a not-so-sturdy method for connecting to the mouse itself.
- In general, the Expert Mouse has a cheap, plastic-y feel. For its price, I would expect something that feels like it will last.

THE VERDICT
--------------------------------------
The Expert Mouse is useful. Despite its shortcomings, I did make it my go-to pointing device for years. If the build quality was a little more substantial, I would be willing to pay much more for this device. The functionality makes it a classic. Unfortunately, I need something more reliable over the long term and will be looking at other trackball options to replace this device. Too bad, because it works well when it isn't broken.

good for large size monitors

By

from Minneapolis, MN, United States

Comments about Kensington Expert Mouse Trackball - USB w/PS2 Adapter:

Good use for large monitors (27") as ball rolls easily and I like the padded wrist support too. The scroll ring is also useful. I do not like that it wears out after about 1 year and becomes sluggish and less accurate - then has to be replaced.

Awesome for music editing

By

from LA, CA

Comments about Kensington Expert Mouse Trackball - USB w/PS2 Adapter:

I use this on a dual boot mac running OS 10.6.8 and OS 10.10.5 and it works great in both environments. Basically running a full-time working recording studio with MOTU Digital Performer, Logic Pro and bunch of other stuff. This took a week to get used to and after that my magic mouse was retired. After a month it's like playing a musical instrument when you muscle memory adjusts. It seem like I can do more accurate work for way longer periods of time without fatigue. I just love how feels and flows. I use the software in both OS's and it works flawlessly in Yosemite and Snow Leopard although you have to look for the older download for 10.6.8. The software is killer for workflow. You can assign the buttons to do almost anything. I have them set like this: top L=COPY top R=PASTE top L and R=CUT bottom L and R=Back for browsing. Don't know how I went on so many years without it. I also love that it's straight ahead USB......no running to the battery drawer during sessions. I think they make a bluetooth one if you like that. Great product.
