I have a stapler that I'm pretty sure is this exact same model. I like that it's easy to use - you don't have to force it - and it doesn't jam often IF it has lots of staples. I also love that it stands on end.

What I don't like is that it doesn't really take a full strip of staples. It takes about 200 staples, not 210. So you have to break off a bit of the end of the strip. Plus, I can always tell when it gets down to less than about 10 staples, because it starts jamming. So about 20 staples of every strip are wasted. The other thing I don't like is that it doesn't OPEN so that you can staple something to the wall. I have to keep my old (broken) stapler for that.

This would not be my first choice of stapler. But I have it, and it works, so I guess I'll keep it.

I Love My Optima 40

By

from Denver, CO, USA

Comments about Swingline Optima 40 Desktop Stapler:

I am an office manager and I have had my Optima 40 for over 2 years and I use it everyday. I handle the majority of my company's AR, invoices, sales orders and purchase orders, as well as audit our field team's time sheets, so I staple everywhere from 2 to 40 sheets regularly. After 2+ years the torque/compression spring finally broke. I sent a simple and tactful email to this site's customer care and they are sending me a replacement. I don't know why there are so many negative comments on here, because I have had a great experience with this stapler. 99% of my company's staplers are the Swingline brand and none of them have failed yet. Furthermore, I have purchased five Optima 40 staplers for my company (for those employees that do high-quantity stapling) and mine is the first to break. To be fair, mine is the oldest, but at least two others are not far behind.

Too expensive to be replaced this often

By

from Miami

Comments about Swingline Optima 40 Desktop Stapler:

We have gone through several of these in the office. They're great until they break, and that's it. I would say we subject them to "light" use, but still need to replace them about once every six months. For this price, this is a terrible value.

Optima = not good

By

Comments about Swingline Optima 40 Desktop Stapler:

This product only worked for a short period of time. It stopped folding the staples correctly and is worthless. For the money, it should last for several years.

Great for 2 - 40 pages

By

from Savannah, GA

Comments about Swingline Optima 40 Desktop Stapler:

This stapler is a sharp looking addition to my desk and not to mention it is an amazingly useful tool. First to catch my eye was the great pop of orange and then the sleek design. As I looked at the package I noticed that it stated with the use of Optima staples provided that I could easily staple 40 pages and I instantly scoffed at this idea. 40 pages, no way! So, I naturally put it to the test and it sure went through those 40 pages just as easy as it did 2 pages and they stuck! I was amazed! Though this stapler requires a bit of effort for just two pages the fact that the same amount of effort could go through forty pages was amazing! I look forward to putting this stapler to work for a long time coming! Please take note that I received this item as a free sample in return for my 100% honest review.

Just Purchased/ Lots of Not Sures....but Staples Well

By

from Joshua, TX, USA

Comments about Swingline Optima 40 Desktop Stapler:

ok just purchased this Stapler for our church Finance office, lots to staple.... However, I have a few things to touch base with.... 1. The whole row of staples Do NoT Fit,... so I have two tiny pieces that I am sure will equal to a row when I finish off the tin. 2. I can not open the stapler to post items onto my Bulletin board. 3. For being compact, it is a heavy stapler. Not what it seems like it would be. Well ,.... I am just going to have to seehow it all works out after reading the not so positive reviews.... now I am not 100 % sure on my purchase.....

Bad Stapler

By

from Yuma, AZ, USA

Comments about Swingline Optima 40 Desktop Stapler:

Lasted about 6 months, started to jam and then the thin hammer part broke. It's the part that pushes the staple. Very cheaply made.

IT WAS GREAT UNTIL IT WASNT

By

from Yuba City, CA

Comments about Swingline Optima 40 Desktop Stapler:

Stapler worked for about a month, then jammed. I wasn't able to open the staple refill slot and when i was finally able to pry it open and refill the staples, it refuses to lock back into place and extract staples.

Jammed

By

from Geogia

Comments about Swingline Optima 40 Desktop Stapler:

I've always had problems with it once it starts getting low on staples (won't staple/will jam) and right after it's been refilled (won't staple at first). This last time it started getting low, it began malfunctioning again and I'm now unable to get the chute to open.

This stapler would be great if it could last longer than 9 months.

By

from Racine, WI, USA

Comments about Swingline Optima 40 Desktop Stapler:

Purchased this stapler because of its larger sheet capacity compared to my current one, even purchased the recommended staples. Used this stapler for about 9 months and the torsion spring broke in half.

Best stapler I've had.

By

from Vancouver, BC, Canada

Comments about Swingline Optima 40 Desktop Stapler:

I'm a lawyer, and frequently need to staple documents in the 15-35 page range. Larger than that, it gets bound or the heavy-duty stapler. But as a desk stapler, I needed this. Pros: Staples 40 pages without a problem. Staples flat, so no corner staple mountain in my binders. Low effort, and solid outcome, whether on my desk or in my grip. Cons: Doesn't seem to hold a full row of staples. **Make sure you use Optimum staples, not regular ones, as the corners and cut-angles are different.

Broke after 6 months of use

By

from Torrance, CA, USA

Comments about Swingline Optima 40 Desktop Stapler:

I bought this stapler to use in my office and it worked great for the first 6 months....although it was only used once in a while to staple the larger packets of paper. Anyways, one day it just randomly stopped working, when I try to staple anything over 25 pages, the staples won't go through and just sort of crumple up on the top page. I have tried to figure out if there is something wrong with the adjustment or if there was something I could do to manually fix this, but have been unsuccessful. For the price, I would not recommend this product.

Comments about Swingline Optima 40 Desktop Stapler:

As a teacher, I need a stapler that opens. For the price, I would expect that the stapler would open up so I would be able to staple papers on my bulletin board.

Is there any way for me to do this?????

Wore it out!`

By

from Oklahoma and everywhere else

Comments about Swingline Optima 40 Desktop Stapler:

I bought it about 2 years ago, needing a stapler that could handle more than 2 pieces of paper, rigors of a road warrior! Bought it off the shelf, not knowing any reviews. It has handled the torture famously! Dropped, bounced, survived baggage handlers, a few standard staples. One or two not knowing to just push and not SLAM! It's seen it all, and kept on going. It's gotten to the point that is pushing the staples in at the bottom of the stroke and having to push harder, I guess the 'gears' are wearing out. It's gone through a lot of staples, refill most every other day. I will retire it to a leisurely home life, with little use. Heading to the store to find it's replacement today.

    Bought 2 - both broke

    By

from Woodland Hills, Los Angeles, CA, USA

Comments about Swingline Optima 40 Desktop Stapler:

    1) staple slide (that holds staples) won't lock in any longer 2) the other one ... the staple does not crease/crimp when pushed down ... just stays straight with points out the back of the paper Very poorly constructed and I wouldn't recommend it. Of course, unless I'm doing something wrong ... I'm using the Optima hi-cap staples.

    Disappointed with Stapler

    By

    from Mississauga, ON, Canada

Comments about Swingline Optima 40 Desktop Stapler:

I've had the Optima 40 Stapler for about 10 months now. The stapler was fantastic for the first 8 months and then it stopped working. I was using the recommended Optima Staples and I am the only user of this stapler. One day the staples just crumpled up without stapling through 10 pages. Many hours were spent trying to determine what was wrong but I was unable to come up with a reason for the crumpling staples. I tried to exchange the stapler at the place it was purchased but they wouldn't exchange it or even help determine what was wrong. I've since purchased another brand from a different office supply store.
