My papermate pencils were marked 2. Just noticed this pencil has 2.5. How do they differ? Will the eraser rub marking without a problem. Pencils are needed for sketching...must have one that completely erases without leaving a dark smudge.

A:#2.5 lead is harder and leaves a lighter mark on the paper.Answered on 6/18/2012 by Adam
A:The 2.5 Mirado pencil has a sharper tip than the number 2 pencil.
The writing o sketching made with the number 2 pencil tend to be darker.
There are other pencils special for drawing or sketching with graduations ranging from softer 7B, 6B, 5B, 4B 3B,2B ,B, HB, H, 2H, 3H, 4H, 5H, 6H, 7H, the harder or sharper.
A regular pencil like the number 2 Mirado or Papermate is equivalent to HB in the graduation of drawing pencil and the 2.5 to H.
The pencil with a sharper tip tend to rip the paper.
The softer pencil tend to leave marks on the papers when you erase.Answered on 6/19/2012 by Bill M. from El Paso Tx.
